V-8, 5.0L or V-6, 3.5L Ecoboost? Looking at Tremor with V-8, or FX4s with V-6 or V-8. Stay with factory warranty or purchase up to extended? Pros/Cons of all please....

I’ve had 3 5.0’s since 2011, no major issues, never spent a dime on engine troubles.

Good stuff to hear Jimbo, kind of intel I'm wanting. I've had a XLT 3.5L Ecoboost since 2016 and have had a few major replacements, within last 2 years, replaced both coolant lines to the turbos and one turbo sensor, as well as right side catalytic converter. Think also 6 turbo or engine charge coils..

First 6 years were great, with just oil changes, tire rotations, inspections and spark plugs changed at 90K mileage. What makes me also shy away from an extended warranty out to 75-100K mileage...

I see your committed to screwing up here but I’d suggest the 5.0 of those options

I'm a 5.0 Fan.

They had issues with the timing chains in some year models. Also, the 10-speed transmission is iffy in all of them. But, If I were to buy a F-150 I would buy a 5.0 Tremor and then immediately take off the horrid yellow striping they have.

I am not a fan of the EcoBoost though I believe they have the bugs worked out of them. Know alot of guys who like them.

I’ve had the 5.0 and the 3.6 ecoboost. Haven’t had any issues with either and kind of prefer the ecoboost. It pulls a boat just fine and has plenty of pep. Unfortunately mine was involved in a wreck on Saturday and will be in the shop for some time. Sure hope it gets fixed right, but I’m sure I’ll notice something is different.

If purchasing the extended warranty… which I strongly suggest due to how many computers and turbos and everything on them… local dealers will charge you double what you can buy the same ford warranty for from a dealer up north. I just got the extended 10 year/100k mile warranty for $2,840. My truck had about 31k miles in it when I bought that warranty. It can be used at any ford dealership in the nation and I confirmed last time I had an oil change that it was in the ford system.

I want to say they wanted well over $5k for that warranty at the local dealership.

Here is where I got the warranty:

I couldn't do Ford. terrible discounts, they are too proud of them. The Tremor is interesting but to get the trim I wanted it was $80K

I have a 2013 XLT 4x4 5.0. It's had a water pump (at 75k) and needs the pan gasket and main seal ($1900) and both upper 02 sensors. Only 118,000 miles. Probably about par for any of the major brands but I'm not just thrilled with it. Powertrain and tranny (6spd auto) are strong, though.

I've got the 5.0 in mine and really like it. Plenty of power to get around people easily, and can get pretty good mileage as well.

I have a 2016 F150 Fx4 with the 5.0 58,000 miles. I bought it new and have had no issues. I love it.

On my 5th 3.5 ecoboost with no issues. It has more peak power than the 5.0 but more importantly in a truck a big fat wide torque curve. All while getting better gas mileage.

Now my next one will be a 5.0 but that’s only because you can order them with a supercharger from the factory with warranty now. Probably the same type truc k I’m driving now, just more power.

I have had an ecoboost and I currently have the 5.0. Both were great. I took the ecoboost to 90k before I traded it in with no issues. On 75k with the 5.0 and it runs like a champ. It wasn't worth the $6k or whatever upcharge for the ecoboost to me, and I haven't been disappointed.

Since when is the ecoboost a 6000 dollar upcharge over the 5.0? Answer… it isn’t.

Actually, he's right about an upcharge, but only about $4K, not $6K.

My dad always said “don’t mess with success”

The coyote 5.0 is tried and true.

I’d stay away from the eco boosts if you’re gonna hold it long term.

Can’t get them with the 6 speed anymore but hey.
