Yesterday, I saw the first Hummers at my house west part of Menard and on the river. We put out feeders on Sunday when we hear that there was one sighted at Clear Creek.
I already have a bully guarding the two feeders that I have on the front porch.
Adios,
Gary

I put a feeder up about March 1. Had my first visitor on March 5. Have 3 feeders out now and they (guessing a dozen or so) are hitting them hard. Drought is so severe there's not a blooming flower in the region... at least not in the wild.

I just put out 5 hummingbird feeders last week at my home in La Vernia, TX. I already have at least a dozen birds here. By April, I'll have over 100 birds between my neighbor next door and myself.

When they get to rolling, I will feed two quart size feeders at the house and at the river every day. They would eat more, but I can't afford it. A neighbor on Clear Creek feeds two gallons a day, I have never seen as many hummers in my life. I buy sugar by the 50 pound bag when I can find it. Between the hummer, axis, whitetails and turkeys, I am about to go broke.
Adios,
Gary

None yet in Erath County. I swear we have some of the same birds from year to year. We have one feeder sitting on our rock patio wall and not hanging. Birds show up every year in the spot it was the previous year looking for it.

saw our first one Monday (March 17) west side of Georgetown but they may have come earlier. We were camping at Caprock Canyon & Palo Duro Canyon SPs last week but I had 2 feeders up since March 1. We normally get our first ones the first week of March most years, usually scouts just passing thru, spend a few days fattening up, then they move on north. By mid April we have several that seem to stick around thru late summer. My grandkids found a HB nest down in the ravine next to our home. Will be interesting to see if they use the same next year after year or build new ones. The ones around here I'm pretty sure are returnees from previous years as they show up to where feeders aren't hanging yet, with that look of WTHeck, where's the feeder? As the numbers pick up, I keep adding feeders across the back porch, sometime getting up to 7-8 feeders. At one point, we had 20+ buzzing thru but the past couple of years it's only been 4-5.

Only have one or two hanging around, I guess its a bit early around here. Put 2 feeders out 3 days ago.
