Watch a lot of Kent Rollins; these actually worked well for me.

Ingredients
2 cups self-rising flour
1 ½ cups heavy cream (Whipping Cream)

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Butter a cast iron skillet or baking dish. We also prefer to use bacon grease for better crush and flavor.
Sift the flour into a medium bowl. Stir in the heavy cream, until combined.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Flour your hands, and knead the dough a few times. The outside of the dough shouldn’t be sticky, but the inside should still have some moisture.
Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter, cut the biscuits out and place in the skillet or dish. (Straight Cut, don't twist) Brush with a little additional whipping cream.
Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until a light golden brown. Brush a little melted better on top (optional) and serve.

so one person sharpens another.

I still recall making biscuits at deer camp back in the mid '60s when we didn't have many baking type ingredients, so used self rising flour and beer for the moisture ... only 2 things used. we didn't have a biscuit cutter either, so formed them by hand. came out pretty good other than the outside was pretty crunchy.
