Anyone see this? I didn's see it posted anywhere yet. https://www.click2houston.com/news/localHB 4938, if passed, would abolish the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and transfer its functions to the Texas General Land Office, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Public Safety. According to the bill, the General Land Office would take over duties related to regulating parks, natural areas, wildlife management areas, fish hatcheries, historic sites, or other public land. The Department of Agriculture would take over duties related to native plants, wildlife, or the conservation or management of native plants and wildlife, including hunting and fishing. The bill states the Department of Public Safety would take over the duties related to law enforcement, such as game wardens, as well as the enforcement of water safety, and the regulation of boating vessels.

I would rather go back to the way it was and have the Texas Game & Fish Commission. I’m tired of my license fees being used to keep the failing state parks funded.

TPWD(the non law enforcement side)has done some pretty suspicious things around Deer breeding. Like CWD result being with held or misplaced or misread results. etc If the want to take it out of TAHC hands they need to allow breeders a voice on advisory council

Evidently license fees aren't the only thing keeping them open.

So DPS recruits will not only have to worry about beating each other half to death in the academy but also passing a horrendous amount of biology and game laws. Good luck with that.

I’m not really for blowing it all up. But the Texas parks and wildlife commission has too much power for an unelected board.

I'd like to introduce a bill to abolish whitetail breeding. That might increase the rate of certain crimes in East Texas.

One of my good friends is good buddies with him. He has a high fence ranch here in Eddy. I know he breeds exotics don't know about whitetails. He knows the bill won't pass he is just stirring the pot trying to open some eyes.
Curry, is stating something needs to change.
“The intent of this bill is really to start a conversation and get a conversation going with the commission on let’s work together with the legislature on some of these rules instead of letting rules stomp on the rights of landowners and small business and legislatures,” he explained.

TPWD has alot of different missions, so I can see the need for a discussion on realigning some of these jobs.
In my opinion, the state parks division is nearly unrelated to the wildlife division. They also have a fairly large prescribed fire program. Then add the game wardens in as well.
I think the way the question should be asked is if it still makes sense the way these duties are divided? As a firefighter, it doesn't make sense to me to have two seperate state agencies that do prescribed burns and wildfire response( Texas Forest Service and TPWD)
