looking around at different rifles. I went back in time and researched the good old Remington 788. These guns are little sweethearts. I would really like one in .44 mag but they are bringing too many dollars. I've seen them in .308, .243, .22-250, 6mm Rem. I think there are a few members here who collect them.

do I need one? It will just be a project rifle to mess with till my next new rifle becomes available.

Magazines are still around. Mine costs $87 back when. Plane jane, good rifle. Wish I'd bought more and several 600/660s as well

No offense friend, but I don't think you have the attention span for a project rifle before your next project becomes available. Then again, do what makes you happy. Your question is like a 24 year old guy asking should I date this cute girl I met or stick with the 3 girls I'm already seeing. The answer is the same, do as you please and have fun doing it.

The 30-30 is the one you want if you can find it. You have two options for bolt action 30-30s, the Savage 340 family and the Remington 788.

Much nicer than I would have said it. But spot on, nonetheless.

WTH happened Gary? Not like you.

I'm trying not to be such a richard as I get older I guess. Coupla whiskeys washes that away quick though.

Buzz, us old guys got to dream. I'm right there with you. I've been keyboard shopping for a new gun (that I don't need) for a month. Gives us old farts something to do.

Yeah...got me too! Had to take extra distributions because of inflation which created capital gains. Bam!

Buzz, look at the old 600 Mohawk in 6mm. It checks some boxes. 18.5” fairly heavy barrel with a fast twist.

My friends has 2 gifted by his grandfather. Very accurate, but suspect triggers worse the 700’s

Buzz you should have Judd build a LH Remington or tikka 22creedmoor, in XLR Atom mag 4.0 chassis and Carbon six featherlight 18” barrel, two stage trigger, threaded 5/8
