This time of year I began to start feeding each of the 9 fawning areas...a little early but ok. I will put out my cameras and about 7-10 lb.s of corn and sometimes a little minerals for the does. The bucks usually like the pens for feeding so I start three feeders in each pen. I will check the cameras every couple of days to get an idea what and how many areas to add. Usually 9 is just right and will handle around 40-50 does. I will locate each area near water and thick brush with an opening about 12-15 ft. in diameter ....mostly the same place each year. The deer are used to this process and look forward to seeing me...LOL It takes about 3 hours to do this but I like getting out this time of year.

I know that almost everyone feed corn to deer, but deer don't actually get much of the protein from corn. They would be far better off with protein pellets. Although that usually means that it should be in some type of feeder. A game biologist once told me that deer only can get a very small percentage of the protein out of corn.

A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.

I don’t shred anything until early fall so the fawns have cover from predators.
