Good find. I had a conversation with a Tika sales rep last year and he told me all of their 2025 models and perhaps that's moved 2026 by now would come with threaded barrels. I've been planning to purchase one of their heavier barreled 22-250 bolt rifles for a while. One of these days.

It's interesting the model that I really like you cannot find in the U.S. Tx3 varmint hunter with a wood stock and a heavy barrel. If that were threaded that would be the perfect rifle.

I love Tikka but Beretta knows best what their customers want according to them. I went back and forth with them for a while on models that are sold elsewhere but not in the US. They did me a favor, it finally pushed me to full custom to get what I want.

My Tikka Roughtek in 7mm Rem Mag is such a great shooter, I want one in .308. This sale makes it pretty tempting. Makes me want to sell the Bergara I bought a few months ago. It's good to go, but Roughtek is really light, shoots fantastic and has a stock I like.

Anyone have any experience with a superlite in 308? Thinking of getting one for my son, just not sure about the recoil.

Have you seen him be recoil shy before? What rifles has he shot thus far?

He has a Ruger 243. I think worse scenario,he will grow into it. He has shot my Savage model 16 308.

I would go with the .308 given that he already has a 243. If its a little much for the time being, he can still shoot the 243 for now. The superlite with good glass on it will be something that he can use and enjoy for a very long time. I still shoot the .270 my dad got me 18 years later.

I would get him a threaded model with a suppressor. It will make a world of difference without the concussion

You can always shoot something like the Hornady Custom Lite loads in it until he grows a bit.

That is a sweet model. I would go for it.

I have a CTR, want to get him something to keep for ever. He will eventually get my CTR in 308. I’m going to get one, birthday gift.

I may buy some T-3 Lites to turn into completely different rifles. Keep the action, bolt and trigger. Scrap the barrel, stock, and bottom metal. Rebarrel it with a Bartlein, Hawkins bottom metal, McMillan, Manners, AG Composites stock. You get into a semi-custom rifle I'd stack up against any full custom at how it shoots and cycles. It saves $700 to $1200 off the price of the full custom, depending on other action choices and trigger choices.

My personal opinion…. With starting many kids on rifles, and from watching plethora of deer, hogs, aoudad, elk, Bighorn sheep, oryx, mule deer, pronghorn and axis die, via 6.5 bullet or 7/08, there is no point in the extra recoil the 308 gives over a milder recoiling 6.5 CM or 7-08 at close and moderate extended ranges.

my 12 year old daughter has been shooting 6.5 CM sig cross since 7. She is a lefty and I’m building her a LH 6cm so she can spend even more time behind the gun shooting extended ranges and multiple positions.

I’d get him the tikka rough tech 6.5 with 5/8 thread barrel and a raptor 6 suppressors and a bunch of ammo, steel gong and let him get very proficient.

Amen. I've been shooting Tikkas since 1998, starting with the M695 and have owned 7 others in T3, T3X, CTR. Getting 1/2 MOA with good handloads is no real trick with any of them. Even though I own a couple of customs, they're not really necessary for any type of hunting.

I don't really disagree, and I have taken many animals with a 6.5, but my line of thinking is that a 12 year old boy is going to likely get quite a bit bigger in the next couple of years or so, and if he already has a .243, it would make more sense to me to add the .308 over the 6.5. Also, a .308 is such a great all around cartridge in my opinion for when he does get a bit older, but that may be my personal bias coming through of how much I like the .308 in general.

Can't disagree with that, especially since he already has .243. He'll like that .308 the rest of his life.

Thanks for the heads up Buzz. I just grabbed one of those and will donate it to New Hope for the clay shoot raffle.
