I'm cleaning up a buddy's old 1965 Winchester 70 .30-06. The barrel was replaced with a medium heavy contour and is marked "Ace Acevedo" above "30-06." I believe the original owner's family was from around Laredo, and the rifle may have been customized in the early '70s. Has anyone heard of him or know where/when he might have been in business? Thanks.

May have been a while since this request for information, however, I was looking over a family member's .270 Mauser Sporterized from the late 1960s or early 1970s the other day when I noticed ACE ACEVEDO on the barrel as well. This firearm's original owner was also from Laredo where I am now. I don't know of ACE ACEVEDO but if you run across any further information on the person or brand whichever it may be, please follow up.

On Linked-In there is an Ace Acevedo that went to West Texas State. Possibly a relation?

I guess I'm going to answer my own question here. I spoke with some old timers here in town and yup, they remember Ace Acevedo. He was a local gunsmith with a small shop not far from where I work. I believe he passed, don't know when. Apparently from what I heard he had a good reputation as a gunsmith and they claimed that he did high quality work. I'm assuming anything with his stamp on it would be somewhat rare. I'll be asking others that I've been referred to and will let you know what I find out.

Thanks for the info. That is more than I have found. Did they say when he was active?
