Thank goodness I never had anything to do with them but I don’t understand why some people have such a hard time stopping. Is there more nicotine in them than other tobacco products or is it something else?

Some addiction I guess, some boredom, unconsciously need a crutch, or even enjoy the taste? I smoked 2 packs/day all thru high school and the Navy, when fueling I chewed tobacco. When I got married at 28 my wife and new 3 year old had asthma. Could not smoke inside the house, and didn't see any reason to go outside in the winter. I just quit on his birthday so I had a reason to remember why. 4/15/1981 was a pretty good day. Never wanted another one, even once

I guess the taste is an acquired thing.

I started smoking when I was 12, worked into a 45 year 2 - 2 1/2 packs of Marlboro Reds in a Box a day along with all the paraquat brick weed it's a wonder I'm still here. I got tired of smoking cigarettes after they started fire-safe cigarettes in 2004 and never missed them I was ready to quit when I did. My wife still smokes, and I make her smoke outside it stinks.

Filthy, nasty habit. Smokers can choke on them for all I care!

I hate folks nagging at each other about stuff but it would be hard for me to not do it for that.

Addictions can vary between people. The simple answer is you have to WANT to quit. Those that try quitting because they think they should quit often fail. I failed several times but when the time came that I really wanted to succeed it was easy.

It's killed everyone in my and my wife's family. We both grew up in it and chose not to smoke. My brother, sister and I were the kids in the back seat of the car in the 60's with my folks up front puffing away with the windows rolled up.
No matter what it is addiction is hard to break, smoking, drinking, you name it.

Cigarettes are one of the toughest addictions to kick. Some doctors compare it to heroin.
I quit over thirty years ago using the then new prescription for Nicorette. You could get the gum for 90 days and then they cut you off. It worked for me.

Used to smoke a pack a day, gave it up in August of 1998 and I haven't touched them since.

Almost everyone smoked back then, my parents smoked in the car and house. I wasn’t good.

I applaud everyone that quit smoking. It is a hard habit to break.

I have a good friend the owned a tobacco store until 2023. I often visited with him at his store on my day off. It amazed me how much people would spend on smokes. The people 50 years and older that bought cigs just looked older and like they had led harder life than a non-smoker. Definitely took a toll on their appearance. My dad had 9 brothers and sisters, and they all had that same look of a lifetime of smoking. All but one of them smoked and they died much younger (60`s) than my mother's brothers and sisters, none of which smoked. My grandmother and her one daughter that didn't smoke live to be 94 and 95 though. My 95 year old aunt passed away 4 months ago, and she still looked good for her age. Cigarettes are a poison plain and simple. Thankfully I never took up the nasty habit. I`m too tight to waste that much $$$.

Used to enjoy a cig while having a drink, it was a nice combo. Only time I smoked if I was having a drink.

Started as a teen working on farm and ranch. Quit multiple times over the years but started back. Yep, it is an addiction, not a habit. It was the first thing I reached for in the morning and usually had one before bedtime. Got to almost 2 packs per day over almost 60 years. Now 82 YOA. Then, several years ago, I started to light one and decided not to. I tossed the pack and quit with zero withdrawal symptoms and don’t know why because it is a physical as well as mental addiction. I kinda miss them but not enough to start again.

A cigarette and a mixed drink are a good combo

But smoking just to smoke never appealed to me.

Both parents smoked. We would go out to eat and my family would all be smoking at the dinner table. Was pretty derelict looking back on it.

As a kid I could tell when my dad woke up. His feet hit the floor and the next thing I heard was the Zippo lighter click open to light one up.
Us kids knew Dad was up.

I hate any kind of smoking including vaping.

. Think its a horrible, stinky, ugly habit.

BUT

I will never tell anyone not to do it. I hate people telling me what to do.

I know how hard ANY addiction can be to beat; I will never judge anyone for their addictions just pray they can beat them.

I quit cigarettes cold turkey. Was no problem. Still smoke one on occasion if a smoker friend is around - maybe five cigs a year.

Last pack I bought was $0.85. I sore no one would ever pay more than a dollar for them.

Started smoking as a teenager, parents were not smokers. Dad was extremely against it was heck to pay if he knew you had been smoking. Never smoked more than a pack and half in a day. tried to quit a time or two without success, finally i just quit carrying them and that enabled me to smoke less. Grandson came along 22 years ago and by that time I smoked maybe 3 a day. Decided this was a good time to quit and did.
