They say every boy wanted to be John Wayne or Billy the Kid growing up.

I wanted to be Indiana jones.

Twice the adventure, still rode horses and always got some booty

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yep. Seems like we’re using the term “cowboy” pretty loosely.

Either that or get a job.
A rodeo cowboy is an athlete not a real cowboy unless he's doing ranch work when not in the arena.

Have quite a few kinfolk that ran cattle in northeast Texas and rodeo’d on the weekends. I’d consider them real cowboys, and ain’t none of them right in the head.

Real cowboys never had enough money to rodeo.

Yelp, and the true big country cowboys are almost gone, few line camps still out there but not many. Cheaper to use helo’s and other means now.

My little cousin just retired from PRCA and PBR. Image he will be driving a truck or something soon. He should have went to college, like I told him too.

My cousin's grandson (my 3rd cousin) has been doing pretty good lately. I rode jr. bulls when I was young and had all I wanted. Hope he stays healthy.

I rolled under the tractor and got on it.. I then took the tractor with the round bale on front and shoved his ARSE out of the pin. He went to the sale barn not long after.

Mostly amateur, but I rode them for about 13 years from high school on. Near the end I was riding two to three nights a week and I did get a state champion buckle in a charity circuit. It would have been rare for me to get on a Bull of the caliber of those PBR bulls, but I sure wish I had the ability and could have. The good is those later years riding had me in the best shape of my life. The bad is I now pay for the injuries that came from those years. My last bull rope is hanging on the wall in my home office along with some framed rodeo pictures and I sponsored a high school team for a short time after I quit. Needless to say, I miss my rodeo days badly. I would do it all over again.

Jackpot bull riding at the International Wildlife Park when I was a senior in High School so 1980 I think. Bull was called Satan.

The wrecks I should not miss, but they let you know your alive. That is my wife in the white shirt visible just above the bull's head. Blurry, but you can just make out the terror in her eyes seeing me hung up that close. Should be around 1992-93.

Was involved in bullriding many years. I rode, judged and even sold bullriding equipment. Lost several good friends in the arena.

About a month ago I needed to give a bull a couple of shots. My 10 yr old grandson wanted to work him. We saddled up and found him and drove him in the working chutes. Took almost 2 hours from the beginning to the end but got it done.
If I would have been by myself I would have drove the Polaris up to him and used the dart gun to give him the shots. Would have took about 15-30 mins. Times sure have changed.

I tried it as a teen and spent a couple of years on the circuit. That was when I flunked out of college for the second time. I had some growing up to do and a little black bull named Nkita changed my attitude with a week in the hospital. I went back to college and got 3 degrees that kept me working at a more profitable and less painful way of making money. About 40 years ago, I bought land and a couple of horses, a bull and 15 gentle cows. Kept them about 5 years and realized that I needed to let neighbors worry about fences. Sold the whole works and gave away the saddles and bridles. No more.

I love riding horses, and I love being in the country way more than the city, but no, I never wanted to be a cowboy.

Rider gets 1-2 bulls a night, the clowns get all of 'em. I went to high school and am still friends with this guy:

Chad Beavers, PRCA bulfighter

Dang Chad Beavers was a heck of a bullfighter. Think he used to work for Mack at Bad company rodeo. Hung out with him a few times in the old days. My son got his autograph when he was about 10 years old and is 40 now and has his autograph hanging in his man cave.
