65 and no real cognitive problems that I already didn’t have from my previous cancer treatments. My body, on the other hand, is about used up. Arthritis is taking a toll. I can still do most things…just slower.

52 and my abused and neglected body know it. The mind is still young and punishing the body. Our new batch of engineers are younger than my kids. 5 kids, 5 grandkids, 1 semi estranged daughter a fabulous wife and a happy life. Overindulgence in life has been my biggest downfall. My weight has a 3-4 year cycle that spans about 80 pounds and of course my activity level reflects that. The knees, hips, and back are gone. The hands swell for two days after handling tools for a day, which is at least once a week. I’m pretty sure I’m going to go wide open off the cliff one day.

74 years young, and except for bad knees I'm still doing pretty good. No glasses, hearing aids, or medications to worry about every morning. I spent all day in the garage and shop yesterday building stuff for the RV and painting, I I will admit to using knee pads for crawling around. The knees just don't do concrete anymore. My last physical the doctor told me to be careful crossing the road, and watch for trucks. We both agreed to lose some weight, and I did better than him.

I am chasing 69, going to catch it this summer. I helped a 20 something year old move some furniture yesterday from a second story house. When we got done, he asked me how old I was. He said he hopes he is in as good of shape as I am when he gets this old. I have a couple of deer feeders that have to be accessed with a 4 wheel cart that are 1/2 mile from the closest road. It takes more trips now and a little bit longer than it used to. Only carry 150# now instead of 300# per trip.

A Iot of my thoughts as I get older are about Reflection. Started my first job 50 years ago yesterday (3-8-1975) when I was 16. That sacking groceries job after school would last 31 years and turned into a pretty good career. What's odd is I never applied for that job. My older brother applied but when they called the house for him, he had already gotten a job, and my mother told them I would be interested. I went and talked to the hiring manager that afternoon and he hired me. I have often wondered what direction my life would have gone if my mother had not told them about me. I met my wife at that job, moved in together in 78 and still together today. I`m 66 now and often think about all of the forks in the road we take in life. Some good and some not so good. If I had not taken that job 50 years ago, would I have a different wife, kids and grandkids. Who knows . Maybe a whole different bunch of friends. I wake up every morning and really feel pretty good for my age though. A few aches or pains but not many. Rarely think of myself as an old man until I go to shave and then reality is looking back at me. Looking back, I am glad my younger self took the grocery sacking job fork in the road that gave me a good living, good friends and a great wife.

Hurt my back two weeks ago Saturday at 9:30 AM. Needed to get a full size frig to Golden Child. Rolled it to the F250, hoisted the durn thing up into the bed and felt it immediaely. Two trips to the chiro and numerous anti-inflammatories. Getting up and down was no good. First manageable pain day was more than a week later. First day wittout any pain was this past Thursday.
I gots friends who owe me and others with lift gates. As I am sure everyone realizes, I need to get smarter.

To quote one of my friends "I can't fix it, but I can still lift it!!" . They just went to Cabo for vacation. Got there and first day slipped on wet floor with sandals, fell and broke his shoulder and bruised hip. Paramedics, ambulance, long time in ER and Xray. Flew home next day pretty expensive one day vacation!!!

71 this month. Starting to slow down some but still handle some labor till my back says time for a rest. Bench vs prone is more comfortable, lost about 20% distance off the tee and considering dumping the go fast bass boat in a couple years in exchange for a more comfortable pontoon/crappie rig.

73 in June. Could hold my on until my left knee colasped. I was awarded a new knee for my 70th birthday. Was awarded a bone marrow biopsy for 72nd birthday. I recieve my 13th Chemo treatment tomorrow. I find myself more tolerent of stupid people with the exceptions of Democrats.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Well I can't un-see this! This morning the wife and I were shopping at HEB. This old geezer (easily 80+) slams his cart into ours (isles are very narrow). I'm like WTF "old-timer"? He dashed on by and as he did he hogged out a dirt snake which dropped down his pant leg and left a 25' dropping trail in the dairy isle. He did NOT make it to the restroom. JFC...did that chit smell bad!
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I’m 64. That’s used to be old to me. Not anymore. I know I’m not bulletproof anymore but I feel blessed. On one side of the coin I’ve had to work through a few physical issues which happens as we age . My bottom two lumbar discs are ruptured and the vertebrae are bone on bone. Chiropractors won’t work on me. It usually doesn’t cause me pain other than taking a bit of time every morning to work the kinks out. A little over a year ago I went through 44 radiation treatments. Never experienced any side effects or missed a day of work. By the grace of God, the treatments worked. On the other side of the coin, I’m still pretty fit. 6’1” 190. Blood sugar is borderline low. Never taken any supplements and with the regular blood work I’ve underwent in the last year and a half, I learned my “T” level average Is still 889. I put in several miles running young bird dogs with a couple buddies for most of yesterday. No soreness or tiredness today and I’m on my way to shoot some clays. I don’t know that I feel like I did when I was young, but I still feel good and am able to do most of what I could when I was young.

As a 39 year old paratrooper, I felt pretty darn old. By that point I had herniated every disk in my spine, and probably re-injured my low back every time I jumped. It got to a point that I stopped taking boot breaks on long rucks because dreaded trying to get back up after sitting for a minute. Let the young dudes think I was hard. In reality it was so hard to get myself back together that it wasn’t worth resting.

Am 83 and still do all the things around the house that have done in the past. Change oil on the 2 vehicles and take care of a too big yard. Am diabetic and had 2 small stents in 3 years ago. Still able to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. Have you noticed those 50 lb. bags of corn are heavier than they use to be...i have. Shot a buck the end of deer season and intended to have him drop where he stood. That did not happen, he ran down a hill. I found him quickly and gutted him on the spot to reduce the weight. Pulling him up the hill was the first real time i really felt my age. All things considered I feel thankful i can still do most things in life. If I can find a new deer lease, I will be back in the field looking for the best buck.

I turn 50 in a month. I am not old. However, my maternal grandmother at 50, was. I'm physically active, work 6 days a week, keep up with modern technology, phrases, etc. My granny did none of these things. Good woman, she was, but she was also very tired and a bit lazy at 50...by the time she died at 70, she was OLD! My mom is now 73 and still push mows an acre 1 to 2 times a week, goes to see her grandkids all over the state, and is very technologically adept. Age is a mindset, but it's also about remaining physically active. As the saying goes, movement is medicine!

I retired at age 70 and am getting ready to turn 72. I think the main way to grow old well is to stay physically and mentally active. I have been running 15 miles per week for 44 years. I know a lot of folks say they cannot run due to knees, etc. but if you cannot run then find an alternate exercise like biking or swimming. The key at the end of the day is to keep your body moving.
On top of that, keeping engaged with friends as you age is huge. I golf, hunt, etc.and I think those types of activities keeps your brain sharp and healthy.
Like Toby's song says - "Just ask your self ..... How old would you be if you didn't know the day you were born?"
Just my 2 cents

Just turned 55 in late February, still hunt, golf and now play pickleball on one good knee and one bad, torn left knee meniscus since 2020. Mostly a stability issue now more than outright pain. Don't feel a day over 50 most days but sometimes my age ++.

Don't feel a day over 50 most days but sometimes my age ++. I`ve had a bad knee since 10/31/74. Football career ended by a cutback block. Skid on it for 20 years with a good knee brace hough. Finally went to Dr. 10 years ago and torn ACL was diagnosis. Still able to mow lawn with push mower and get around like I did when I was younger. Have no plans to get it fixed unless it causes me problems or interferes with what I want to do (deer hunt, golf, fish or mow lawn). If it works ....don`t fix it.
