Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars is one hell of a GM. Best in the metroplex. And I'm saying that only a year and a half after Chris Young brought the Rangers a World Series. If you're not a hockey fan you won't understand the trade he just pulled off at the deadline, but the move for Mikko Rantanen was a master stroke. Instead of sitting on the 2nd best record in the NHL cruising into the playoffs.. he added a top 10 talent. And not just a rental.. signed him to a long term extension. The Cowboy's and Mavericks should be taking notes.

I hope you're right. He didn't perform like I expected in Carolina...which begs the question, is he really a top 10 talent or was he that good because of Makar and McKinnon? Let's be realistic, I could look like a hockey player playing with those two

I will say I didn't see this coming and starting to look like the Stars will have 1/2 the Finnish national team.

He was unhappy with the Panthers. My money is on him quickly returning to form. The play-offs is where we need him. Dude has another gear.

No way Nill had anything to do with him going to Carolina. Carolina royally screwed the pooch thinking they could sign him to an extension and that whole thing backfired...they dumped Nacas (sp?) for him. If I was a Canes (Dave, this isn't NFL ) fan I'd be calling for the entire back office to lose their jobs, not the first fumble that org has had. Saying that, their biggest issue is they aren't a big market team and it's just tough to compete.

Exactly. They aren’t a big market team. Mikko was too big for them, but look what all they gained in this deal. They knew there was no way to keep him, and the Stars needed him Benn aging and Seguin falling apart. We developed a good player (Stankoven) as trade bait and it worked.
