So I have one of the Notorious weak ejecting Savage 110 series rifles. Has anyone tried one or some of the 3 different kits available?

There is a Savage factory kit, and two after market versions.

Y’alls results ?

I’m leaning toward the factory kit at this point. Actually looks like a fairly simple install. A couple of youtube videos on it too.

Here is one kit where plunger is similar to original

https://kinneysshootingsupply.com/ss-2401-2-deluxe-savage-enhanced-extractor-ejector-kit/

This is another and new plunger resembles factory kit but I’ve read the new plunger has some play but that might not be a bad thing as it might stop it from getting gummed up.

https://lumleyarms.us/savage-cf-extractor-ejector-kit

I think the factory kit is called “bolt head” kit.

https://www.gunshack.com/savage-bolt-head-kit

I also saw this great post showing the old original parts as compared to the aftermarket kits.

https://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?72659-Extractor-Ejector-kits-Factory-vs-Kinney’s-vs-Lumley-W-pictures

The 2 new style plungers seem made to retain the spring.

Whatever you do, when you're buying a new ejector spring, but 4 of them instead of one.

That will hold you for a while.

Savage ejector springs are a smaller diameter than any other brand ejector spring from any other rifle manufacturers that I've had in my hands. And I've removed ejectors from hundreds of bolts.

I think one of the kits above the springs have more tension. I think whatever kit I choose it will fix me up till I’m dead.

The design in general is why I would never use a bolt gun for dangerous game at close range, even something like a Hawkeye. I put more trust in a leveraction for such or a 590 with Black Magic slugs.

The plunger and the roll pin are probably fine. The spring is the malfunctioning part.

I out 4 springs in one bolt, that was shooting .22-250. I finally gave up.

It doesn't eject. That's fine, it keeps me from losing brass in the Prairie Dog towns.

Surprised they don’t sell them at the Dollar Gentral by now. At least at 7/11.

Agreed.

There was a time I couldn't find the springs through any supplier whatsoever. Errbody was trying to buy Savage ejector springs. No supplier had any.

Pretty telling.

After reading this site and others, seems the best is parts from each kit 😂🤣😂

I also read where if you hold the plunger down with a spent case the pin drives out easier ?

I've been using the ones from Gunshack for probably 6-8 years on my four Pdog rifles. If I remeber correctly I also changed out the ball to a slightly larger diameter on Savage .270 and 30-06. Although I never had an issue with them ejecting spent brass, but they don't see the rounds the pdog rifle do.

I made jaws to hold bolts in my vise. Hand a 5 gallon bucket off the end of a bolt. Hook a piece of brass in the extractor, swing it to press in the ejector. Hold the exact right size punch on the roll pin and drive out the pin, into the bucket. It's a three handed job I do with two hands. On a good ejector spring be careful to ease the piece of brass away and not fire off the ejector across the shop.

Would a spring of the same external dimensions with a higher spring rate help? I'm sure McMaster has them, even if you have to trim to length.

I think thats what one kit uses. Mine still ejects but It has a misstep once in a while. I might just buy one of the kits and do the plunger/spring first before the extractor.
