Lost another good friend just the other night. Went out at 11:30 PM, got in his truck and drove away. Found him two days later out in the desert. That's the 3rd one in about 6 months. What a horrible feeling of loss, and wondering what you could have done to help. So sad to take a permanent end to what may have been a temporary problem.

Still in my prayers. I pray for supernatural peace and understanding, and to remove the spirit of suicide from you and your circle.

Thanks for thoughts everyone. It is tragic to lose people too early, and I think everyone knows that the pain and loss never goes completely away. Watch your friends and family, and always be there for them.

That’s rough. Depression is tough! It’s not weakness, it’s an illness.
Listened to Rogan podcast with Fetterman. He explained it very well saying it feels like your mind is on fire and you just want to put it out.

Listened to Rogan podcast with Fetterman. He explained it very well saying it feels like your mind is on fire and you just want to put it out. It's most definitely an illness, and for many, a fatal/terminal one. I've begun to look at it that way. It's a killer, just as cancer, heart disease, and others are. Very sorry for your loss, Blank. Three in recent months is especially horrific. Prayers for you.

I’ve lost one to suicide. He was 55 years old, traveled the world, been to war, loved women, and done it all. Cancer hit him with no hope for remission. He used a 38 Special to end the unendurable pain that drugs only partly alleviated. No surprise and couldn’t blame him.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I had a very old Uncle that ended his cancer pain with suicide. And, that brain tumor I had many years ago was causing such incredible pain that if the docs hadn’t fixed me, I would have shot myself. No doubt about it. I can’t begin to describe the pain.
I worked with a guy years ago that took his life with a shotgun. He was a great guy. Very smart. Had a good looking wife and 2 nice kids. Had a good job. No reason to go out in the woods with a shotgun, so it was a huge surprise to everyone. But…his grandfather had committed suicide and his dad did too. Maybe it’s an inherited mental thing.

6th grade best friend did it at school in gym bathroom. I was in gym when it happened. Brother in law Brother
I don’t understand it, it’s tough for the people they leave behind. Maybe the terminal illness thing I kinda get, but man I have always looked at it, really damaged people.
Praying for their souls.

Years ago it was primarily soldiers, both active and veterans, who had seen lots of trauma and violence. Now a lot is carrying over into our first responders, who see and do the same things. Young kids who think their lives suck. Makes you want to reach out a hand to all of them

My grandfather shot himself in the head when my grandmother left him when he was 90. The old bastard was too mean to die by a bullet. He survived the horrors on Iwo and wasn’t right. He died a few years later with the 22 bullet still in his head.
Suicide is the worst thing anyone can do to their family and friends. Had a few buddy’s kill themselves and have no respect for them.

Had two cousins that did that. One drove his car into a bridge, the other put a 44mag under his chin, they were brothers. Back around 2012-13 ish, the company i worked for in Plano hired a national sales manager. He seemed to have a lot going for him but flaked out and got fired. Couple days later i was driving from the office on the way home, came upon a few police cars and other vehicles in an area off the side of the road, didn't think much about it. Got home, got a call from a friend telling me to look at the news. It was the ex sales guy, he got out of the car, stuck a shotgun to his head and ended it.

Until you experience such a problem/Troubles in your life on a personal level, you will NEVER understand why people do it. Sometimes you just get old like myself and you think that you have no more to contribute to this world. Kids are gone and don't have time anymore to stop over or travel to see you. Money problems, Marital problems, just tired of living a useless life. Nothing left to offer the world. Dementia, and seeing it coming on every single day...day after day and not improving, You forget more and more and more every single day and you see it and feel it and NOBODY GIVES A SHT because they don't have time to be BOTHERED to try and understand ( Out of sight Out of mind ).
I've asked all 3 of my sons to watch " STILL ALICE " about a woman with dementia and what she's going through in her daily life and they can't be bothered. LADIES and GENTLEMEN, please watch the movie and hopefully it will give you a inside track on what the person is dealing with EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THEIR LIFE from now on out. This is IMHO is the best movie for FAMILY MEMBERS to watch and Listen to. It really really scks to see it coming and their is nothing you can do about it. So YES, you mind wanders on how to END THIS SHT.
Long story short. Don't hate the people that do it, just TRY to understand a little harder on WHY they did it and maybe you can stop a friend some day.

I’m not into self pity but have a lot of issues. I’m 82 yoa and survived dang near every disease including polio. I walk a mile nearly every day and lift light weights, stretch a band and squeeze some grips while sitting on my butt watching TV.
Starting physical therapy today for bad back pain issues. Doubt that it will do much good because I think the problem is arthritis and you can’t exercise yourself out of that. When I “crook” my lower back, pain hits that sends me to the heating pad. I told the back Doc that but he said let’s give it a try.
Doc says 2 extra strength Tylenols 3 times per day. I only do it twice.
Tofu, I also have some dementia re short term forgetfulness.
We will see.

Blank sad and tragic, prayers for all of their loved ones!
Had a real good childhood friend and next door neighbor, good looking guy with a great personality that we shared the same birthday. A group of us Oak Cliff guys continued to hang out hunting, fishing and a lot of partying hard as adults, even living in the same apartment complex for awhile. Unfortunately he always had problems with women and decided to hook a hose up to the exhaust of a car in the garage and ended it, big bummer!
Not quite the same but still suicide. My oldest brother was a heroin addict, got caught robbing a jewelry store in the mid cities area and hung himself in the jail on Dec 24, 1980 he was 30 years old.

Some interesting replies. I am not going to dismiss personal problems as a contributor, but at the end of the day there is something else going on when somebody attempts suicide. Most survivors that attempt suicide follow through within about 5 minutes of making the decision. It’s like an impulse.
Get some help. Even of you feel ok. I am gonna pray every time I see this thread.

Over the decades, people I knew or knew of, or people the kids knew, have found ways to kill themselves. They were all a surprise. None of us saw it coming. We never know what stresses others are facing. And, we all know people that are under tremendous stress that don’t kill themselves. So suicide isn’t predictable. When it happens, we can only ask ‘why’.
That said, there are people, physically damaged people, that, when they kill themselves, we do know why. An old uncle shot himself when he was in his mid-90’s and had terribly painful terminal cancer. And my wife’s dad would have killed himself, but the cancer had progressed to the point he couldn’t reach his pistol 4’ away. And I mentioned the non malignant brain tumor that hurt so bad that I would have killed myself to stop the pain
So, if any of you are considering suicide, ask for suggestions here on the forum as to how to best do it. The resulting commentary would be worth reading for days. Long enough for you to change your mind.
For the record, my choice of suicide would be smothered under a pile of naked cheerleaders. Age appropriate, of course.
