I know Mexico is not for everyone and I may get my head chopped off.

AA has announced new non stop flights from DFW to Tampico, starting tomorrow. I had to be on the first flight, first row.

Will be there for nearly 3 weeks. Youngest daughter is flying down next week to meet us for her spring break If you’re looking for something different give it a shot. Beaches are nice, the fishing is good. They recently opened a Tim Hortons, been wanting to try it.

The biggest negative for me is renting a car, feel I always get ripped off. I have a secret strategy this time.
Last trip I used only uber or didi. Getting in a small Nissan being 6’5 is not good or easy.

I may try to get temporary residence while I’m there. Got my documents translated and apostilled. I give it about 10 percent chance of success.

I love Mexico and might take my wife and kids there this summer. I never had a problem while I was there. Enjoy your trip and take pictures.

Hope you have a great time. That's good news about the direct flight. Went there for a few times on business and only visited the city and industrial areas around Tampico. But I was also going from Monterrey. May go back to Tampico next year on business depending on how things go.

I understand there are a variety of beach rentals further away from the city?

Checking in, the guy never heard of Tampico. I’m pretty sure my bags may end up in Tampa. Admirals lounge lady was also asking me about Tampa during check in. I had to let her know Tampico was international.

Velamar has pretty nice beach rentals. It’s a gated complex with 5-6 high rise condos and about 200 homes.

Last year we stayed in a new beach “boutique” hotel, Soleare. It was dead.
There is an older all-inclusive, I would avoid, Club Maeva.

The Golden Lane oilfield is near there and probably worth a visit. Largest on-shore well of all time. The Cerro Azul #4 came in at 150,000 bopd. There’s a museum there

Good historical info. Tampico was certainly built on oil with a tremendous American influence from golf, country clubs and neighborhoods. The Degoyler family made a fortune there.

I love Mexico, I try to take at least 2 trips down to Cancun, I can be in Cancun airport in about 2 hours and 10 minutes from wheels up at DFW.

Love the place and Cancun has the best tourist infrastructure I have ever seen, plus during Covid they stayed open and didn't close the beaches or the country for tourism like so many places did.

I am more of an all inclusive guy in Mexico, where else can you get 5 Star Hotels and Food for 2 Star prices and so close to USA. Cancun area US Dollars are accepted for the most part.

That's very cool and worth putting in the scrap book!

It would probably be a bad time for Trump to initiate airstrikes on the cartels. That might make them a little testy. smile ani

Ran into some fellow whites last night. I had jokingly told my wife if I saw some whites I would have to jump them and establish my territorial dominance.

We were at the beach at night, its populace with lots of activity. The wife wanted a crepe. We see the whites holding up line, they didn’t speak Spanish well. So I helped them out, then began a conversation. Two dudes, one was clearly gay. The other one quickly explained the situation letting me know he was not with the other guy and he hired him.

The gay guy is a “pet transporter”, that’s his job. The other dude was about my age and said he was retired and this guy was hired to get his dog to Belize where he retired. He was a retired Tucson cop, so we had a nice conversation.
They were only in Tampico overnight.
