[quote=TopOfTexas]Nice thread!
en legs, we recover (dispatch) 84%, including those that escaped onto neighboring property (yes, call the dog back) and the average distance to dispatch is 1.5 miles with range of 700 yards to 6.3 miles.
4. I charge (in the TX Panhandle) $250 to track plus $100 if recovered and I'll add mileage if over a 2 hr drive.]

TopofTexas, Not sure where in the Panhadle you are located but I hunt at the Walker Canyon Ranch near Matador. I need to get your contact info just in case. Its some rough country and I'd hate to lose one.

How useful is a drone after the deer dies and no longer can activate a thermal camera? Do you just have to fly a grid and physically spot the deer and then make the recovery? Never used one and was just wondering.

They'll leave a heat signature for a very long time. We've shot hogs during the day, drug them to a location to shoot coyotes off of them after dark. As I recall it was maybe 8 hours after we killed them that they still showed up on a thermal.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.
