If tney were a legitimate tax lien loan service, they would just foreclose. What you're describing does sound like a scam.

Should be documents recorded in the real property records of the county the property is located in. Many counties have records online, all you need is the name and a little time.

"I get a call from a company". This seems like a red flag if you only got a call rather than a letter. If it were me I would have told them this sounds like a scam and to send me a letter with the details I can take to my lawyer to look over. And immediately hang up. If it was legit, you would receive something from them. This is a grift IMO. I have bought property for back taxes owed to the county. Once you do that you own the property free and clear…..

To stop a phone scam , INSIST on a letter. They won't spend the money.
