I have no issues with people using the flashers. I do get annoyed with people that want to drive slow and stay in the passing lane as well as people who want to drive 20mph under the posted speed limit.

Thought the cops we're there to correct bad driving habits like this AND parking on the wrong side of the road with your lights on at night and many others. IF the cops would write more tickets these bad / wrong ways to drive would be corrected.

I agree that more stringent traffic law enforcement could go a long ways. I guess there’s just so much other crime going on that this is low priority.

That’s because truckers whip into the left lane like their life depends on it, then proceed to take ten minutes to pass the vehicle in the right lane.

Soon as that gap is big enough, you have to take it before the next one blocks you or you’ll miss your exit.

It’s illegal to drive a vehicle in Texas with the emergency flashers illuminated.

No, it's not. Recommended not to use them, but not law.

“A driver operating a motor vehicle on a public road can use the hazard lights in inclement weather to proceed safely on the road to alert other drivers that they may be approaching, overtaking, or passing, or stopped on the side of the road,” Sergeant Richard Sandifer with DPS said.

In Texas, you can even mount extra lamps to your car to make it more visible. But there are rules.

The lamps must be on the same level, evenly spaced and visible at a distance of at least 500 feet.

If the lamps are on the front of your car, they must flash white or amber. On the rear, red or amber.

We can VERIFY in Texas it is legal to drive in the rain with your hazard lights flashing.

That law does not apply to all states. In Louisiana and Florida, it is illegal to use your hazard lights while driving in the rain.

I was referring to the city ordinances in just about every major city. The state law in the TRC changed allowing it but very few cities have caught up with it yet.

Texas Transportation Code - TRANSP § 547.331. Hazard Lamps Permitted

Current as of January 01, 2024 | Updated by FindLaw Staff

(a) A vehicle may be equipped with lamps to warn other vehicle operators of a vehicular traffic hazard that requires unusual care in approaching, overtaking, or passing.

(b) The lamps shall be:

(1) mounted at the same level and spaced as widely apart as practicable on the front and on the rear of the vehicle; and

(2) visible at a distance of at least 500 feet in normal sunlight.

(c) The lamps shall display simultaneously flashing lights that emit:

(1) a white or amber light, or a color between white and amber, if the lamp is mounted on the front of the vehicle; or

(2) a red or amber light, or a color between red and amber, if the lamp is mounted on the rear of the vehicle.

Name one city with this traffic law trumping state law and post the ordnance, or I can look it up for you. If it is your city, cite what traffic violation you have issued.

No, city ordinances in Texas cannot override state laws. State laws generally prevail when they conflict with local laws.
Explanation
The Texas Local Government Code prohibits municipalities from adopting ordinances that conflict with state law.
When state and local laws conflict, the state government can nullify the local law.
The Texas Legislature has overridden local ordinances in the past, such as when it preempted cities from regulating ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft.

Most irritating thing on the road, governed big trucks trying to pass one another. Get in the right lane as well as anyone else going below the posted speed limit and stay there please. If you get in the left lane get on it, pass the car and get back out. 30 years on the same stretch of 35, semi trucks in the left lane are one of the biggest problems on the freeway!

Normally in and out of the right lane because in my 6 years driving a semi, i have never seen on-ramp traffic leave a gap big enough to fit my rig. I might have the right of way but that would be no consolation if somebody gets killed. Plus, when you have a CDL, it’s not who is at fault. The question becomes, “was it preventable?”

Everybody says truckers act like they own the road. In my experience, it’s quite the opposite. And statistics back me up on this claim. Because statistically, of all accidents involving big rigs, about 80% rule that the truck driver was not at fault.

But that trucker will still be penalized if he could have prevented it.

The more you know

You got that right. Seems like the big truck in the left lane takes 10 miles to pass the one in the right lane so that the herd of people backed up behind both of them can finally go on down the road. Sheesh.

BTW, it is so far away from Texas that it is just trivia, but to correct my own post. I was informed it is legal to drive with your hazards on in Florida. That law changed a long time ago there.

What is this fresh hell they've dreamed up, and where did it come from? I was at a light the other day, at the line, and was by myself. Middle lane was 1.5 lengths from the line (half a length behind me) and right lane was a full length short of the line. Absolutely no reason for it but I see WAY too many people doing this (Lubbock). Need to spay/neuter those morons.
