Watching the news this morning and they’re showing the storm coming through on the roadway cameras . OMG … the number of numb nuts driving with their flashers on is ridiculous. It’s rain and wind… not an emergency!!

They even have the flashers on when it is just sprinkling. If you can' t drive on the road, get off.

They impede traffic. They need a ticket.

Texas Department of Transportation suggest to use your hazards when driving in fog, so I guess heavy rains produces same conditions.

I would rather have some super slow driver use their hazards than not use them in rain.

So do motorhomes and the Mexico Mexicans that have been to the auto auction in their caravans, but nothing is ever done about them. Add in cell phones and a large percentage of people that can't keep their vehicle in their own lane and you've got barely controlled chaos. Drive defensively! up

I am aware some people have a phobia of flashing lights or can have starburst or halo issues in a storm due to astigmatism or cataracts, but I honestly don't care one way or other if someone uses them. The people that are that sensitive probably should not be on the road at that time anyway. In Texas at least, people have the option of using their flashers if they wish. I am not anal enough to care about such things. Flashing or not, I just drive on past without thinking about it.

“A driver operating a motor vehicle on a public road can use the hazard lights in inclement weather to proceed safely on the road to alert other drivers that they may be approaching, overtaking, or passing, or stopped on the side of the road,” Sergeant Richard Sandifer with DPS said.

In Texas, you can even mount extra lamps to your car to make it more visible. But there are rules.

The lamps must be on the same level, evenly spaced and visible at a distance of at least 500 feet.

If the lamps are on the front of your car, they must flash white or amber. On the rear, red or amber.

We can VERIFY in Texas it is legal to drive in the rain with your hazard lights flashing.

That law does not apply to all states. In Louisiana and Florida, it is illegal to use your hazard lights while driving in the rain.

I have seen many people use hazards even if heavy traffic slows suddenly. 18 wheelers do this as well, and then leave them on till traffic picks back up.

How about headlights during the day? I had someone once tell me my headlights were on. I was like OK. My truck is factory lifted so I guess they shine into the back of low cars or something, but it can't be that bad. I did not remember doing it, but I suppose when I got my truck I checked the box for daytime headlights when doing all the settings for everything else. I left it alone. I don't care what some annoyed Karen thinks and again what other people do about their headlights I don't care one way or the other. We have too many laws and rules as it is.

Yup, idiots are plentiful here in the great state of Texas, unfortunately we all must tolerate them every day.

I will say this. Out of 34 years as a firefighter with highways in my districts, I have never seen a vehicle hit because they had flashers on, but I have seen several where the driver did not see the other vehicle before they hit it. That experience is why I installed a full length light bar under my tailgate. I want people to look up from their phone and notice me instead of crashing into me.

Yep flasher help folks know they are going slower than the other traffic, that is a good thing.
Most of you all have never seen a truck get hit from behind that was going much slower than traffic, it results in headless folks in the car.

Some of you will gripe about anything, lol !!!

I suspect this is taught at Drivers Education now of days.

Back in my day we were taught to use them for emergency only, but last 20 years I notice they come on during heavy rains.

I have no issue with it myself, especially if they are driving slower than rest of traffic.

I hate to admit it but Texas has the worst drivers I have ever seen. Especially in Dallas, Houston, and Austin. Sometimes the only way I can change lanes in a semi is to use the opposite blinker. Soon as they see that turn signal everybody behind you in that lane speeds up to pass you. I call it the Texas turn signal. Sad you have to use the opposite turn signal to keep folks from blocking your lane change 🤷‍♂️

That whole emergency flasher thing didn't happen as much years ago but it's prevalent now. Jacks me up when I'm on the interstate and see them ahead.

That’s because truckers whip into the left lane like their life depends on it, then proceed to take ten minutes to pass the vehicle in the right lane.

It is probably the same idiots that stop 10 yards back from the white line at a stoplight.
