Any of you guys used a normal “indoor” tv on a covered 100% free from rain location on a patio? If so what were the results?

I’ve seen the outdoor rated tvs. The videos of people dumping water on them….. I don’t need the ability to dump water on a tv but I’m just wondering what kind of issues, if any from just run of the mill north Texas humidity etc if any.

My father in law used a regular indoor tv for years in his pavilion by his pool. No rain could get to it and he never had a problem with it.

We put one on our screened porch a few months ago. No problems so far, though it’s recommended that we put a cover on it when temps go below 20 degrees.

Haven’t turned it on since freeze but going strong for 4 years no cover

I have, currently on my third one, as cheap as TV’s are now just be prepared for it to eventually stop working.
First one lasted 8 years, second one lasted 5 years.

I don’t cover or protect mine in anyway either, they are open to the elements but under a covered patio

We have a regular one that is covered from the rain unless its coming in sideways. We are on year 3 of it being out there, still working just fine. I don't keep it covered because it would require me getting a ladder out to do so.

Im going on 5 years with the same TV. It's completely protected from rain but not freezing temps.

2 years on the side patio, keep it covered during Winter. No issues.

I have an El-Cheapo large screen tv on my back covered patio by the pool, been there at least five years, works great, I cover it sometimes during storms, but it has been there through numerous freezes and no issues.

Covered side patio. Large screen TCL Roku. It is covered with cheap Amazon cover, sometimes rain comes in sideways.

I did buy the extended warranty. 3 years

My biggest mistake was lubricating the TV mount, shoulda kept it stiff.

Dang it, now you guys have me thinking of putting a tv on my back patio!
On second thought… I enjoy listening to music out there so probably a no go on the tv.

I didn’t need a TV on the porch, and the wife didn’t want one either. But then the favorite granddaughter (the one just married off) got a new little dog. We don’t allow dogs in the house, but we do on the porch. So we had to get a porch TV (said the wife) so GD and her fiancé could watch football with the dog. I call it the “Dog TV”. Wife said the first one was too small, so we went bigger. Haven’t seen the dog in a while, but the TV is good to have.

We put an old 50” Panasonic Plasma TV we had in a spare room in our covered porch when we built it last year. The thing is from 2009, but with a Roku streaming stick and a cheap antenna it does the job. Every once in a while it won’t turn on and we have to take a hair dryer and blow out the pollen or dry out the moisture. We cover it with a cheap cover we bought on Amazon.

Use any regular tv but put a cover on it. The dust and humidity are the biggest issue you will face.

Same as everyone else. I’ve had good luck with them so long as they are under a dry area.

I put a cheaper Sony on my back patio about 9 years ago, doesnt get used much but still going strong....

I figured an outdoor TV might last twice as long as an indoor TV, but I can replace the indoor TV 3 or 4 times for the same cost as the outdoor TV. Our indoor TV has lasted 4 years now on the patio.

One thing to consider is choosing a wall mount that will not tilt the TV in the wind. Ours likes to point to the right any time the wind blows hard.

For about eleven years now, no problem. Outdoor models are not worth the cost in your situation.

I had two indoor TVs on the patio for two years. I’ll let you do the math, but one was not to natural causes. There is nothing like a boy that needs to learn a lesson. That said, it was the second one that went to natural causes and I had already learned my lesson at that point.

An indoor TVs is cheaper and can survive, plus it is cost efficient to replace when it kicks the dust. What I found is indoor TVs aren’t bright enough even under cover with bright sun causing a contrast. We got a Samsung Terrace and it has been a much more enjoyable experience

We’ve used a regular TV for 9 years without issue. Last years wind storm was strong enough that it soaked the TV with rain, our fans were dripping wet. We never replaced it. Yesterday’s storm soaked the entire patio again. I’d sure like to know what’s causing the rain to lift, the underside of our patio ceiling was soaked.

I bought a used projection TV box at a garage sale for $20. It is great for watching TV on my upper deck. My ceiling is an open gable covered in cement board which makes a great, giant screen with the projector pointed slightly upward. My lounge chairs lean back for comfort. There are some caveats though. The projection is best at night. I live on a lake, so bugs swarming to the light can be intolerable during certain time of the year; but that is true of all outdoor TV's.
