How old were you when you got your first credit card? I got a Montgomery Wards CC and a Sears CC around 1979. I was 21 and already had 3 car loans but I wanted to help establish my credit. Growing up, everyone bought lots of goods at Mongomery Wards, Sears and J.C. Penny`s from their catalogs and had it shipped to their catalog centers. I didn`t get a Master Card CC until I was about 25. Me and the wife have never had a debit card though. We put everything on our Discover card and pay it off every month.

They always had them at college, it's so they can brainwash people into using them.

Even today people use them and not checks or cash or some other form

Credit Card companies are legalized mafia style companies, people today think they are gaming the system by get cash back or air miles, what they don't realize is all those cost are pushed onto the consumer

Credit card companies charge the retailers about 2 to 3% to process a credit card, in the end that is passed onto the consumer.

This is a question on a " Learning Curve ".

How much money do you save or make ( I've never done it ) per month doing it that way? Just a round number not looking for any of your personal data...

I only use on for online purchases. Cash everywhere else. There’s a lot of cash discounts around here.

First card, had my name on it but was not my card, I was an authorized user. When I turned 18 I got my own Discover. Next - don't remember if it was a Master Card or Visa - was when I got out of college.

Pay off my cards weekly, if not more often.

I have no idea. Discover give a % back. Wife spends it on grandkids at Christmas. Don`t know what you mean about a learning curve. The key is you have to pay 100% off every month. Lots of people aren`t disciplined enough to do it and go down the credit card rabbit hole. I had a few younger friends (35-45) at work that had learned the lesson with CC`s and wouldn`t even use a credit card unless it was an emergency because they had already put themselves in deep debt when they were younger. Some try keeping up with the Jone`s and never learn.

JC Penny 1978 around the time we got married. Most things we needed came from there as there was a store nearby and pretty much everything else was cash. Later got a Visa CC for other things including gas/diesel. Learn early on to pay it off every month. Was a good way to build credit. We've had a debit card for years but never use it, don't even recall the PIN. I still try to use cash as much as possible but with the internet ease of ordering things, a CC is almost mandatory with as much as we order online. We have several for different reasons, all have some form of points system or cash back.

There was a time ('90's?) when they were passing them out on college campuses like they were candy. The daughter of a friend of mine got in over her head. It took some "tough love," but she is a very successful woman, wife, and mother today.

Those costs are pushed on to all consumers not just the credit card users. Might as well use the card and get the points or miles.

I do! It was a long bed single cab with A/T. Got about 8 mpg. It was stolen, more than once. Replaced it with a ‘79 F150 short bed with Standard 4 speed and a lift kit on 35” tires. Rolled it twice, sold after the second rollover.

When I was 18 or 19 to get my credit established.

Also got some bank loans that I didn't need and paid them back quickly.

18 yrs old, $500 credit limit. Maybe spent $100/month. I have never paid a dime in credit card interest. My current limit is very low, $7,500.

It was 1995 and I was 20. I had bought a brand-new Mazda pickup with my mom as a co-signer a few months prior. My sister co-signed for a visa at our local bank...One year later I was able to refinance the truck into my own name. I then got a gas card, a Target card, and another MC in my name alone and cancelled the visa. Very grateful for the help. It was hard to get a credit card back then...unless you were in college. All of my friends in college were getting them left and right without any job. I owned my own business and couldn't get one without a co-signer. Yeah.

100% correct and why using them and paying them off monthly is helpful. I charge about $6,000 a month and keep all money in high yield savings until due date. It is another $225 a year ir so in interest
