I had kept myself convinced for all my years that I did not need a suppressor on my rifles. Last fall, I shot a friend's .308 with a supressor, my first exposure, and came away still thinking I don't need a suppressor. The problem is now I WANT a suppressor. I've decided a 5/8 direct thread mount and a 1/2 to 5/8 thread adapter on a 30 caliber suppressor will allow me to use the same suppressor on all my rifles I would want to shoot suppressed. I am looking for a not too heavy, sub $1000, good warranty suppressor for my needs. I had no idea there were as many suppressor manufacturers as I have run across while starting to research the topic. So far, the Banish 30 or the YMH Resonator seems to fit the bill but I am sure there are many others in the same category. So, ye who are in the know, what say you? Lowish cost, high decibel reduction, solid warranty, ease of mounting and maintenance, which can would you reccomend?

What suppressor did your buddy have? Were you shooting indoors? Very surprised by reaction.


I picked up a resonator R2 a couple years back. I use the direct thread cap to save weight and length. But if you have a 1/2” rifle you are wanting to use you could leave their QD system in and buy an extra muzzle device.

While super sonic short AR-15 rounds are a letdown, bolt action or 16” AR-10 and shooting is probably not safe but comfortable to the ears.

I have had a Q Trash Panda for about 18 months now and have used it on .300 BLK, .300 Ham’r, and 6.5 Creedmoor so far. Using the Cherry Bomb brake/QD setup from Q. It’s the only suppressor I’ve had a lot of experience with, so can’t comment on others. Been very satisfied with it and would buy again.

I don't remember what his can was and was shooting outside. What reaction surprises you? I was very impressed with the noise reduction and since I had never shot that rifle before, I had no reference for change of weight or balance in the rifle.

I’ve been using them for 25+ years and they make everything about shooting more pleasant. The increased overall length is the only downside for me. 30’s rated to 300WM are the most versatile ones I have.

My experience with Dead Air Nomad 30 Nomad 30 L, and Diligent Defense Enticer 30 STI and the Road Hunter for my Rimfires has been excellent. I have used but not owned the Thunderbeast Ultra 7, Ultra 9, and the Silencerco Omega. I would be happy to own any of them. The Enticer STI is defiantly the best value per dollar out of the list above.

Get something with the asr mount, seems to be the best one.
Watch the silencer syndicate on you tube he will definitely help you make a decision.

I have the silencerco chimera it’s rated up to a 300 rum and it’s been great little heavy and it has some back pressure but it’s been great and was less than $1000

I wanted to buy a yhm but they are hard to find in stock anywhere.
Their cost is quite attractive.

Stick with manufacturers that have been around. They may not be the most inexpensive but they have solid engineering and customer service behind them. In no particular order…

I have the R2 resonator and love it , like most things I was late to the party but I love it and doubt I’ll ever fire a round that isn’t suppressed ever again

I shoot a .30 cal Thunder Beast. No complaints. I switch it between my 300 BO, 300 WSM and 6.5CM. Works great!

I've had a SilencerCo Omega for years now. It's the only centerfire can I currently own, but it has been great. It gets swapped between multiple rifles/calibers without any POI shift. I have a couple of ASR mounts that it came with, but only use it direct thread. It has the anchor brake, and significantly reduces recoil as well as sound. It is rare that I shoot anything unsuppressed these days.

I would also recommend a dedicated .22 lr suppressor. With standard velocity or subsonic ammunition, they are as close to silent as you can get. In a bolt action rifle, it sounds like a dry fire. In my semi-auto rifles or pistols, I just hear the action cycle and the bullet hit.

I purchased one without every hearing on in person. Maybe it was because I had to wait 14 months for approval, but I was floored to the point where I couldn’t believe I waited as long as I did to make a purchase.

Also, I was running sub sonic 300blk the same day and was just blown away at the “silence” so when you said you shot your buddies and weren’t moved to make a purchase I wondered if you were shooting a K sized can on a 5.56 rifle and didn’t get the experience the full size magic.


A resonator R2 is by far the best bang for your buck from a proven company that has above average sound suppression. Yes there are some lighter cans, but it’s very manageable on all of my rifles.

Have you had issues? I have not had any with their products I own. My favorite rifle is the Fix and suppressor is the Full Nelson.

I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with their products in general - many people have them and many people like them. But I definitely think they are overpriced for what you are getting (for example, baffle design is quite basic), there are better options out there as their suppressors are pretty 'middle of the pack' performance wise, and Q as a company is someone I would avoid. There are other companies where the figurehead of the company does not publicly trash competitors and customers alike.

If you plan on an adaptor I wouldn’t use any of the over the bore reflex ones as the adapter can get stuck in the reflex.

As far as sub 1k, the trend is less weight so you can get the stainless ones pretty cheap now compared to titanium. AB A-10 in 5/8 and DD enticer -L are both sub $650. They are great bolt gun cans for the money, with that said titanium versions are still <1k

I felt like that toward Q...and the owner is arguably a tool. But what I will say is when the ATF got silly with pistol braces...he stepped up and offered to pay for the stamp for anyone who had purchased a pistol braced rifle from Q. That is when I changed my opinion of Kevin and Q. He didn't have to do that and in my mind was far and above what was required.

When that news came out...I went and ordered a Q Half Nelson, great can. Kevin was one of the first to design lightweight effective cans...but he was with another company, drawing a blank as to where that was (sig maybe??).

Anyway, just another perspective...not arguing as he does speak his mind but in my eyes that illustrated a standup businessman.

To follow up with my comments above, I would go with OCL Polo or YHM Resonator for sub $1k.
