Is there an ideal time to feed dewormer to whitetail deer? Central TX

After the beginning of spring when moisture & sunlight put enough power in the soil for forbs to grow and the deer have their muzzles continually on or near the ground.

I'm planning on putting the dewormer feed in my protein feeder. I figure a couple of bags would give them a good 2-3 days of dose

Read the instructions. They likely need more than couple of days. The "medication" is mild.

People were having sport with some guy on here a few months ago about deworming deer. So it’s a good idea now?

I know some high powered deer "people" who really believe in it. Somes have said it was the key to body weight increases across te herd which then correlated into better antlers. We tried it as prescribed one year and consumption immediately went down. that was several years ago and we ahve not done it again. Our horns are fine.

Deer don't read labels. We have found you find a pelletized protein and then stick with it for at least that year. We used to switch it up for price or convenience but, now will go out of our way to be consistent.

I don't think putting a couple of bags in a feeder will do much of anything.

With my Ibex I have tried those pellet dewormers. I have not found any that really work that good. I now mix some Cydectin or pour on Ivomec with corn. Smells like hell and you would not think they would eat it, but they do. Only problem is that you could not use it in a self-feeder. You would have to put it is troughs right after mixing. The Deer here eat with the Ibex, so they get wormed also. Also, if they have tape worms hardly anything kills them.

This is what STX suggested a few years back. I've never done it but I get the idea.

Biggest problem with any of the treatments is insuring they consume enough of it to do the job. I have no doubt if you can actually deworm deer that it will help them. With Ivomec, you get the added benefit of killing ticks too.
