Interested to check my rain gauge after last night. I have some 21-0-0 I might just put out.

Pass the gravy.

I didn't even bother with a garden last yet, but gonna make up for it this year.
Onions, Garlic, Potatoes, Turnips, and beets are planted into garden so far, and I have soil prepped for a bunch more! smile

Single digits coming tue and wed nite. Guess I'll be 'strawing' in the onions tomorrow to give a little protection.

They are pretty hardy to around 20. 16ish for me this morning and supposed to be a little colder tonight. If they can hang on I’ll be close to a 100% success rate for winter. I typically bank on losing 10-15%. I think they will take a hit but overall be ok. They are doing really well this year. Planted Dec 14 and yesterday pic.

Yours look way better than mine. Soil is a little too wet for them so far up here I think. It was 9 yesterday morning and 10 right now.

Pass the gravy.

I guess I need to start putting mine in even sooner. I planted them mid-January and am worrying about them. They came through the first cold spell just fine, but we're even colder this time around. I've got some leaves in the furrows, but nothing on the plants themselves. We'll see how many I lose.

Planted my onions the day after Derek on 12-15-24. I leave before light and get home after dark so I can only check them on the weekends.

Pass the gravy.

I'll post some pics of my onions later today. I have to plant potatoes and prune my crepe myrtles today.

Pass the gravy.

No pics of the onions. They look too sad to be photographed.

Pass the gravy.

I’ve got you. I’ll post my sad ones. They took a hit. Only 5 or so are dead best I can tell so far. Most still have some green and think they will recover fine with great temps coming. Going to give them some AMS and water well the next day or so. Will update later.

I tilled AMS 21-0-0 into the soil when I planted my onions. I sprinkled some on a couple weeks ago too before the single digit temps. How much is too much? I'll check the soil for dryness this morning.

I'll typically work in a little 13-13-13 prior to planting. Per Dixondale you want to fertilize them with AMS at 1/2 cup per 10' row every three weeks.

I've got some sad ones too but don't think the bulbs got damaged. Hopefully they'll make it.

A guy on the TFF garden thread mentioned his Atwoods has Red Dirt Plants brand veg plants for $1.29 4" pots. That's a smoking deal if you have a store close. Mine is about 20 miles away and will check next time I'm by there.

Those onions look WAY better than mine. I will check out the Atwood's deal. Seems a little early for that. Online, my store only shows one gallon patio tomatoes for $6.99 which is still pretty good. Need to look in person.

Pass the gravy.
