We are close to booking an Alaskan cruise for June 2026. Have you any experience with Regent or Silversea cruises?

They sail out of Vancouver, British Columbia or close to Anchorage either way. w

Any recommendations?

We loved our Alaska cruise, but used another cruise line. We are now scheduled for a Silverseas cruise in the British Isles, but have no experience so far. We like smaller ships, so Silverseas looked good. Danged expensive.

The Queen Elizabeth is an ocean liner and would be an awesome ship to sail on but we are interested in the smaller ships because they can get over closer to shore and have a more unique experience allegedly.

603, we also did the Princess. It was Ok; lots of interesting scenery but didn’t really enjoy it. I’m more of a get in the middle of something instead of just watching shorelines.

For sure. I'd look at Silverseas... but man, that's a shiny penny.

Agree but we will be 61/60 next year and don’t plan on leaving much behind after expiring.

We liked Royal Caribbean for the Alaska trip. Viking for other trips.

Actually, digging a little deeper, cruises like the one in the video were way more reasonable than I thought. I had seen their northern passage cruise for over $50k. eeks333

Go for it! I'm sure it'll be loads of fun. up

Edit... Of course, I'd still also recommend a trans-Atlantic on the QM2.

Oh man I would love an ocean voyage. Maybe you still can but at one time, pre modern terrorism, piracy and Covid you could travel on a freighter as recent as 10 years ago. Freighter would just be me though.

Dave, our Alaska cruise was on the Celebrity Infinity. Left from Seattle. We were lucky enough to have picked a cabin, with balcony, on the best side of the ship, going North (the inland side), so we had great views, and wine and cheese. We stopped at a lot of ports, did a train ride, walked all over the towns. It was a good trip. I wouldn’t recommend that ship, however. It was too big to suit us, and meals in the big dining area were too formal and you sat with the same people every evening meal.

We did a couple of cruises on the Oceana Riviera, and we like that ship a lot. But, our favorite cruises were on American Cruise Lines. Smaller ships and relaxed atmosphere.

We had discussed doing another Alaska cruise next, but I saw the ad for Silverseas around the British Isles, and that was that. Next cruise might be Alaska again. Tried to book one last year, on a small ship, but couldn’t make it work.

Our cruise today is in the RV, down to McKinney Falls State Park for a few days.

That there train ride was rather special. You'll get lots of king crab and will take lots of photos.

(“Edit... Of course, I'd still also recommend a trans-Atlantic on the QM2.”)

I had the good fortune to be taken to Europe and the Middle East for 8 weeks in the summer of 1969 with my grandparents.

Took TWA’s first 747 from New York to London, and we returned On the QE2….which was almost new, from La Havre, France, via Southhampton, and on to New York. We had dinner one night at the captains table. The ship was almost new.

Needless to say, it was the trip of a lifetime.

We ended up booking on the Regent Seven Seas Explorer for Alaska in June 2026. They have some pretty good deals for advance booking.

I might fly into space in a rocket if given the chance before taking a cruise.

Cruising in general isn’t our idea of fun either. We had already checked that box once on a Caribbean cruise many years ago which was enough. But we did want to do specifically an Alaskan cruise.

The Alaskan Cruise is very different from the Caribbean variety. We enjoyed our Alaskan Cruise very much.
