You know they might have had a chance if they had brought the cartridge back sans the belt. Everyone knows it’s just there because it’s a Weatherby.
Varmint hunters shoot a lot….. I shot over 20 rounds at mainly coyotes but a couple other varmints just on Saturday.
At the normal 80-100.00 per box Weatherby asks versus 40.00 for a box of 22 Creedmoor don’t think it will sell except to a select few Weatherby lovers.

That's a nice way of saying dumb cartridge...but it's a dumb cartridge. The old guys will be the only ones interested in something like that and not because it's cool but because of the nostalgia of it.

I’m not sure but…there’s always been a snoot factor with a Weatherby. Basically, you could show up to camp with any super dooper, 1/8” pin hole shooter, in 6.??? rip snort caliper, custom teflon molded, $$$… and a ton of guys would look at yours and the Weatherby wood…and say, nice plastic. I’m sure Weatherby ran market numbers.

I’m not sure it’s terribly practical, but it feels like there’s a method to the madness.

This is exactly the reason I would get one, for the wood.

DStroud makes great points as usual but he actually shoots his stuff.

Nothing they do is practical. But they sell.

The backcountry line has done very well and they have a new bolt gun in the lineup. The Mark V deluxe will always be a classic.

Out of the major American production rifles, they are one of the last ones still producing the flagships that made them famous.

Remington is out, Browning discontinued the A-Bolt, Winchester’s model 70 is still made but they sell a fraction of what they did originally and Ruger shyte the bed when they canned the M77 in favor of the American.

They have expanded their chamberings to include more standard calibers than every before in a Mark V lineup as well

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have a soft spot for .240's & 257's Weatherby Magnum's.

Agreed.

Ove got no use for the cartridge or the wood/blued rifle.

There all good. Us older guys have an appreciation for the wood/blued stuff. In the early 60's that what our dad's and grandpa's had and as kids we didn't know any different.
Times have changed for the better, but I still love and appreciate the wood/blued beauties.

How can you say no to this. eek2

I've got wood/ blued shotguns and lever actions.

None of my bolt actions are wood/ blued. They are synthetic stocks, stainless action and barrels with Cerakote. Those stocks are lighter than wood stocks, and they do not move in the weather. Rust is not a concern on the barreled action or bottom metal.

I like the Varmintmaster, I have one from many years back, and I may get one of these. I pretty much just hunt and shoot with stainless/synthetic rifles these days, but I bet the majority number of animals I take in my lifetime will be with a wood/blued rifle. There is something nice and appealing about a nicely done wood stock and shiny deluxe blued finish.

Man that is a beautiful shotty (Buzz loves it when we refer to them as such rofl ) angus...I like wood and blued on an o/u or sxs, not so much on a bolt gun. But I get why guys do. My comment was on the cartridge itself and not on the rifle.

It’s a fine looking rifle. I’d be afraid I would hurt it though.

Saw the head of Aimpoint on his African Safari. He was shooting a Blaser R8 with Grade 7 wood. I guess its relative. I would tend to protect my wood more than he did.

.224 WM, I think you could load a heavier "hunting" bullet and shoot deer, same as with a .22 Creedmoor.

You won't find art in my tool box and you won't find tools hanging on my walls. Folks make some beautiful firearms but I can't/won't afford art like that. My kind of art is free. The dead tractor, the dead truck, and 2 dead dirt bikes parked on my place are my art. As to the cartridge itself, all I can say is, why did it disappear once already? nidea
