My wife is a ginger who is very adamant about sunscreen and covering. She popped with melanoma last year for 1st time. She’s been doing yhe yearly derm since her 20s. Now it’s a bit more frequent.
I’ve had a few look overs by a dermatologist as well. I’m sure I’ll get something sooner or later. I’ve burnt pretty bad on a toob down in Huds back yard, fished passionately in my 20s. Worked outside most my life. All the things.

Never been a fan of smearing sunscreen creams or lotions on. The aerosol sunscreen in a can that soaks in real quick is much easier for me to apply and tolerate. I’m sure it’s not the best, but I close my eyes and spray it all over my head/face and any area that’s going to be exposed. I’ll throw a hat or face covering whenever I’m out.
I’ve had half a dozen or so burned off my face and one big one on my head. Thanks for the reminder.

I use the aerosol kind and I use it on my face and head even though the directions specifically say not to. My wife wears sunscreen every day and rarely leaves the house. She will have perfect skin at 80 and mine will be falling off. Golf and yard work are my outside activities. I usually only put sunscreen on when I play golf because yard work is usually in the AM when the sun is low and I don't stay out there very long for that. Nothing burned off yet.
Pass the gravy.

So is skin cancer. Agree, I’ve had basil cell cut out. Cover up with cloth and avoid chemical sunscreen.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

As to the debate is sunscreen bad for us.
There is no way that the largest organ on our body absorbing copious amount of chemicals is good, but the idea that I’ve seen pitched that melanoma had increased over the last 50-75 years from virtually nothing before is what I would say is more diagnoses not more of the disease. I cover as much as I can. But use sunscreen where I cannot.
From dust you came and dust you will return.

ouch !!!
I do agree covering with clothes is easier and effective. The dry, spray is what I use.
My Dr. said my damage was done a long time ago.

I will be visiting the Dermatologist every 6 months for the rest of my life. If your up there in age, you should be doing same at least every year. The last thing I want to do is have to have this done again. I let it go too long because I noticed it soon after a bit of frostbite and thought it was related to that. Last year it started changing pretty fast. Most of my generation including me just did not wear sunscreen very often if at all and uv blocking cloths were not as much of a thing yet. Whatever you do, do something. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-1680-446249-20240830_105810.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-1680-446250-20240830_121552.jpg)
