I had a couple hands do that, and instead of letting me know, they ripped the mast off with another forklift.

We had someone raise the mast past the stops and it fell from quite a height. Big investigation as to what happened to the stops.

The less funny side of this is this type of situation often results in a fatality. One side sinks and the other does not, the lift flips on its side, the operator tries to jump and the cage catches them on the neck. I’ve saw two fatalities from this.

I was just thinking that, when it involves a forklift, an incident without an injury is a win. There's a reason you're supposed to be certified to operate one. (Old Safety Director here, among other "titles". The guys in the shop called me, as they flipped down their safety glasses, "the Safety Azzhole." I wore it with pride. 'Just tryin' to keep 'em alive.)

If you tried to make someone pay for something like that, they would tell you to get bent and then walk off the job and then you are out trying to hire someone for probably more than they were making and then you would have to train them as well.

When my wife still worked for XOM; she high centered a forklift on a curb while loaded with a super sack of catalyst. She and a coworker decided to hitch it to her jeep and yank it out before the boss found out. They quickly learned that a forklift is heavier than it appears.

At least they are still sitting on the tires. I have seen a few laying on their sides over the years.
Scooter learned they drive fast, they turn fast, but they don't do both well on an uneven gravel surface.

Guilty of same offense! We did same thing only used winch truck to get to that state. We looked at our accomplishment and said good thing the boss didn't see that! Like it would matter it was going to have to be explained. About that time looked up and lo and behold guess who drove up on us and us looking stupid with a 2 piece forklift....the boss/my son! He sat for a minute and didn't recognize our handy work then let out a whining howl, "what did you do!" all while looking directly at me. I have a history of being close to things going south around the shop. Only ripped side shift hose apart and damaged cylinder so it was minimal expense.
