We are looking to buy some land , build retirement home. Is there a benefit of living in OK over ARK or vice versa ? Texas is too expensive.

Where in OK or AR?
Things vary greatly in both states depending on where you live.
What are your objectives?

My brother lives in nw Arkansas near the buffalo river, semi retired and enjoys its. Cost of living is pretty low and at 48 he some how ended up on some kind of state subsidized Medicare or Medicaid. Doesn’t matter how much you made in life or what you have in the bank. Only current income. Pretty crazy.
He’s not enjoyed this winter (his 1st) in his quant cabin but I’m sure come spring he’ll be okay again.

Wife and I are looking at NW Arkansas. Stay away from SW Arkansas, I grew up there and it's not a very good place to be.

If you like humidity and sweatting your a*s off Arkansas is for you. Go for a visit in August and see what you think. I'm in Oklahoma and already made my choice.

A buddy of mine is from Arkansas. He told me to retire to Heber Springs. I haven't been there but the pictures look nice and he told me the trout fishing is really good there in the Little Red River. Je goes back a few times a year to fish.

Maybe it was because I was young but I don’t ever remember sweating there besides football practice. Now TX is a different story I sweat every day lol. Hell I sweated today and it was 20* outside

Arkansas Ozarks has some of the most beautiful and rugged country I have seen 👌. And if you have the money, you can probably snag up a entire valley or mountain side for about the same price as a big house on 100 acres in Texas Hill Country.

The Ouachita Forest is also amazing. If you are looking for a place that the GPS don’t even work right, Arkansas Ozarks and the Ouachita Forest. Don’t worry about finding a place with a grocery store nearby. You can’t hardly get away from Walmart these days. They got towns with Walmarts and etc throughout the region. I deliver to Dollar Tree stores throughout the Arkansas Ozarks, almost always in close proximity to walmart.

I’m from NW Arkansas. We will likely end up there someday when done with RVing. We usually pass through there for a month or two in the fall. It’s really an awful place. I don’t suggest anyone visit or think of moving there.

Grew up in NW Arkansas and didn’t know how lucky I was. Went to the university in SE Arkansas and hated that area. It really depends on where you are located in the state.

Arkansas also produced the most Bassmaster Classic winners. The reason for that is because the bass fishing habitat is broad and varied throughout the state. You can fish almost any type of scenario for bass in Arkansas as any place else in the country.
Deep cold water lakes that produce record size walleye and trout, probably the best duck hunting in the world, float the river, hunt pigs in the southern part of the state, hunt bears in the Ozarks. Arkansas is a gem and a whole lot of folks overlook it.
Missouri has too much tax and too many people living and voting in big cities, making life hard for rural people.

The only problem with NW Arkansas is you're in tornado alley. It runs from Wichita Falls TX, diagonally across OK to Joplin MO...right through NW AR. Not saying tornados don't hit other places, but that line seems to funnel them.

It's red through and through.
