Been looking at trucks, Ford, Dodge and now moving on to GM, may move on to Toyota after. The GMC, AT4 and AT4x sure are nice looking rides, guessing the do those in either V-8s or the dual turbo 6s? What is the feedback on either or both? They seem to be $5-10K more than Dodge and maybe $5k+ more than Ford, is it justified and why? Lots of 2025 auto rating services had their trucks in 3rd behind both Ford and Dodge and trying to understand why that may be. Thanks

After operating hundreds of different vehicles at work under extreme conditions, I have found GM vehicles have more QC issues than any of the others.

I really thought I wanted the AT4X 2500 until I drove one. Underpowered and missing some tech compared to the Ford. Also costs more. They’re awesome looking but I went with the F250 Tremor.

No experience with the half tons.

What is the purpose of the GMC trucks with back tires turning same direction as the front tires like they show on this commercial?

[Linked Image]

Now the tires turning in opposite direction, that makes a lot more sense, that would give a tighter turning radius, but they never show/promote that.

I think that you and any GM product is a perfect match. Go for it.

Guy, the crabwalk feature isn’t something most people would use a lot, but mostly because they’ve never had that option. Even then, they wouldn’t use it a lot. I would never buy a vehicle solely for that reason, but it can be very useful. At work, we rely a lot on Skytrak forklifts, which have the same steering capabilities. The all wheel steering is what we use 95% of the time. But now and then, the crabwalk steering is a life saver. That’s used in tight spaces moving heavy loads around. Probably anyone buying that vehicle would never have any practical use for it, but if they ever did, they’d be glad it was available.

Man can you imagine pulling up in a parking spot and realizing you parked way over the line just crab walk over a couple steps. Not gonna lie I would use this feature a lot rofl

Oh yeah. It’s quite handy if you need it and know how to use it.

They turn opposite direction up to 25 MPH and same direction above that. There is no stability at speed with them opposite and no benefit going slow for them to be the same. In true GM fashion, Chevy and Cadillac both have different names for the feature from each other and from GMC. The full size Cadillac EV-SUV is due out soon with the feature and the Silverado EV will have it too. I only know all this meaningless crap because I have to maintain my training for several bonus programs and each store has to have an EV expert ... which I wear all the hats in the shop so that's me. I think the real world price on the Hummer EV shown is north of $150K. I have driven and worked on one. Not my cup of tea, nor the Blazer EZ owned by a local nor the Bolt EV I serviced last week.

To the OP, there is no GM "dual turbo six". There is a single turbo gas 2.7L 4-cylinder that is more powerful than you'd think and there is a 3.0L inline six cylinder single turbo diesel with oil leak issues and the most complex emissions system known to man. Pick this option if you trade before powertrain warranty expires.

The AT4 and AT4X are "above" Denali trim and only below Denali Ultimate... kind of (Denali is more luxury and AT4 is more off road). I have no idea how they compare to others just make sure it's apples to apples. Kinda like buying a mattress or refrigerator ... no one sells the same thing. My employer sells all four US brands new but I rarely venture to RAM/F*** land. There is no foreign dealers nearby. The AT4X has quite a bit more stuff than the over-optioned AT4 and we have one 2025 that's $9K off and is equipped with the 6.2L gas V8. We have a Chevy High Country 6.2L that's $7500 off. Not many of the upper tier trucks around right now as they get snatched up pretty quickly. One of the hottest sellers right now is the Yukon Denali Ultimate at well over $100K and they sell same day they arrive.

Pass the gravy.

If you read the internet enough and believe it you'll find out that they all suck. I've had multiples of all of them in our fleet over the years and haven't found one brand to be that superior to another as long as routine maintenance is done and the drivers aren't complete idiots. I went back and forth myself when I decided to get a new one last September and decided on a late '24 manufactured Tundra. So far so good, but only 5800 miles.

FWIW, loved my 3.0 baby duramax. My son still has his and has 62k trouble free miles so far. Mileage is astounding.

I really like the 6.2 Gas in my wife's Yukon, so I wanted the AT4X. The 22 gallon gas tank ran me off from that though, I don't mind the bad fuel mileage too much but at least wanted a 30-36 gallon tank. I went with the Raptor instead and really like it, but, it's not made for any work.

AT4X Experience

Figured I'd make that big to stand out in case you really want a lived experience with one rather than people just doing the normal brand game. I have had an AT4X for about 2 years now, and I will say it's a nice truck. The ride is great with the SSV shocks, and the interior is just as nice if not nicer than a Denali. It has massaging seats if that's your thing but I never use them. No issues with the engine, transmission, or any QC issues.

If I don't seem overly enthused, it's because I'm not. A lot of people know that I had my TRX stolen and this was the replacement. The TRX was an all around better truck in every regard except for fuel economy. That said, everyone who gets in my truck and who has driven it loves it, so take my opinion for what it is.

Since you live on the pavement that makes sense, mine has 700 miles now and some new stripes from the mesquites and already has a layer of red dust that penetrates your soul.

At what mileage/age do you get a new one? If I recall when I bought my ram ecodiesel you had something else, then you bought a ram ecodiesel, then to the baby duramax now to the Toyota. Heck I might have missed one in the middle.

Company provided truck, 2021 Tundra Platinum 4WD, no payments, no gas or insurance expense. Living the dream!

Yeah I like new trucks that's for sure. I HATE car trouble, so most of the time that's the reason I get rid of them. I don't have time or will power to screw around with car trouble. I had a GMC that had the well known transmission issues prior to 20k miles so I got rid of it and go the Ram ecodiesel. At 38k I got the perpetual warning light issues, engine shut down warnings etc and they told me it needed a new computer, ABS module, and something else and wouldn't have the parts for 5 months. They were a GMC dealer too so I traded that for my '22 GMC 1/2T duramax. Drove that for a little over 2 years, got rid of my camper and trailers, semi retired, then got the Tundra.

Had a raz ma taz Silverado and it didn’t make it to 60k miles without major issues.

When you move production to Mexico, product turns to caca.

Japanese engines are it.

Sad because I had an 88 suburban that just wouldn’t die, 97 Silverado that was a work horse.

Bygone era though. Ford has the best engine/tranny combo with the coyote and 6 speed.

That’s the only domestic truck I’d buy right now.

I don’t know for sure when ford got rid of the 6 speed but my 17 Expedition has it and the 2020 had the 10 speed. The current 23 is the same 10 speed.

Gas Guzzler, is there an ongoing issue with GM transmissions in the 2022 3500’s? I have 17 of them in our fleet, all gas powered, so far 9 of them needed transmissions before 80,000 miles. These are distributed in four different states and environments. confused2

2017 was the first year of the 10 speed in the one fiddy, if my memory serves me well. I had a 16 and 17, pretty sure the 17 had it but the 16 didn’t.

My 2018 gmc has 145k miles on it. Replaced the torque converter last year and just did ball joints. I really like my truck. Id love a new one but not at the new prices.
