I had shingles when I was 40. Doc said it was one of the worst cases he had seen. I looked, and felt, like I had been in a fire.

Got the two shots last year. On each, I felt pretty bad the day after. About like I had a mild flu case. Definitely worth it to not go back through another round of shingles.

So....what if you have never had chicken pox? Can you still get shingles? Should you even get the vax at that point?

Only your Dr should answer that.

Completely agree. But until then I'll share this link:

Learned something new. You can catch chicken pox from someone with shingles.

"A person with shingles can pass the varicella-zoster virus to anyone who isn't immune to chickenpox. "

Mayo Clinic has a good writeup on shingles as well.

If you haven't yet, get the shot for shingles. I've known too many that suffered with this wretched affliction.

I think I have had 2 shots and have had shingles twice. The last time Dr. prescribed Valacyclovir 1 gram tablet. Seemed to work quickly, have been told that once you have shingles you will always be susceptible to having shingles again

Hope you get better soon… that stuff is no fun! My wife got it when she was pregnant with our daughter. It was in her eye and half of her face.

The first time I got Shingles it wasn't bad. A couple years later I got it again. Same thing - not bad. However, it got in my eye. That part was pretty [censored] awful to put in mildly. It can cause blindness. A year of two different eye drops multiple times a day and quarterly ophthalmologist appointments. A shot to drastically reduce the possibility of blindness is a no-brainer to me.

I have been to his home a few times in the past, it's been a while though.

You guys got to be careful with that shingles vax. My good buddy is 69 years old went to rowing classes 5 days a week was a roofer incredible shape and got the shingles vax. Months later he's at the church working mowing I believe digging Etc and is having a hard time swallowing. Next day he's in the hospital. Fast forward 6 months he is able to stand and take a few steps out of his wheelchair. He cannot move his arms or hands. Slow slow going. Guillain Barre disease. There is a connection to the vaccination. Be careful.
