Who among you have a wife that will dump the tanks on your RV or travel trailer? That’s one thing I’ve never seen a woman do, and you can bet my wife won’t dump them. Just wondering…

Mine probably would if I showed her how. I just don’t see the need.

The wife's an RN. She said it shouldn't be a problem. She stopped short of saying she'd do it. We only owned a travel trailer for a short time. She never slept in it. I doubt we'll ever own another one.

My wife has been around a lot when I’ve done this. Mainly for just stand by help. I’m sure if it would be an emergency, I could count on her. She makes a great dog kennel helper, AKA pooper scooper.

Dumping tanks is my job. However, we did suffer through a polar vortex during a time when we were full-timing for a couple of months. Our valves froze shut and she was out there in 5 degrees helping me attempt to thaw the valves. That was 2014, and also the last time I saw her around that area of the trailer.

I do them. She is reluctant. But it’s more about the potential for a situation.

A young newbie couple asked me if I knew anything about the sewer systems in rv’s. They said they had a terrible smell inside of their trailer and they’d tried all the additives known to man.
They thought you were supposed to leave the valve open so all the poo could flow out. Poor things.

My wife would do it anytime it needed it and I wasn’t around.

Mine wouldn't touch it.

Good first post on the poop post. I was fortunate that my first time camping the host helped me and told me to leave the black tank valve closed.

My wife won’t even use a porta potty….

Why would anyone expect their wife to handle the waste from their trailer or go on the web and ask if yours does?

I asked because I had just read a rather funny article on what wives avoid when camping. One of those things was the dumping of waste tanks. That’s when I realized that my wife had been avoiding doing that for years. So…it seemed reasonable to ask other RV-ers if this task was a guys-only task, or maybe it was just my wife.

From the many and varied RVing forums, there are forums for single men and women RV-ers, so obviously there are women that dump waste tanks. But, it seems that if she has a male companion, it’s his job to do the dump.

Does that explanation satisfy you, Grumpy?

A travel trailer isn't "camping."

Well, we do call it a “camper”. I do know a few folks that think spending a night in a cheap motel is camping (but, no waste tanks to deal with if you’re in a motel or a tent).

To be fair, I’ve walked in a couple of them and turned right back around to figure out Plan B. And I’m not exactly THAT picky.

I'm the only one who does it. She won't even look at "all that stuff."

Definitely wouldn't dump mine at deer lease. I dump into a bucket and then somewhere away from camp. I have a portable toilet with a bucket that I use for the most part.

Mine will dump it if I'm not around.

nope, my wife handles the inside and I handle the outside. She is capable but that's one of my jobs.
