I’ve settled on a G43MOS and will be putting a red dot on it. What would you recommend? I’m partial to Aimpoint because I’ve had excellent results on rifles. What you say?

Any of the name brand stuff is pretty decent these days. Aim point is good for sure. I’ve used Holosun with good results and trijicon.

Hard to beat the Holosun EPS Cary. It’s a perfect fit on the 43x

What do you do for a living? I tried red dots on two pistols and while I really liked shooting with them they were not practical for me. I work outdoors and they would get super dirty in a hurry. Depending on what I was doing they could become hard to see through in a day. I will stick to my irons. If you worked in an office they might be ok.

Consider Holosun 507 Green Dot. I find the green to be much better for target acquisition.

Twenty plus years in the Military and the proper grip angle, for self defense I don’t need to aim with my secondary weapon. It is naturally on target like a Colt Peacemaker in the hands of Matt Dillon. I’ve used a bunch of handgun reddots but unless hunting, target shooting, or plinking they don’t live up to the hype for me.

When I was forced to train with a Glock I had to force myself to point shoot the belly button to hit upper body mass. Glock’s grip angle doesn’t jive with me personally. Glocks requires more wrist flexion, specifically ulnar deviation, to align the sights (For me). When your grip angle is right, your front sight or a white painted dot on the center of the backstrap is your “red dot”.

I always tell people to stand 3 yards from a man sized silhouette target with a colored sticker in center mass, draw and shoot 1 round as fast as you can with one hand, the gun closest to the center is your starting point. If you hit the same spot doing this with your weak hand this is your gun. Don’t aim with sights while doing this, just point.

There are many great handgun reddots and I would recommend a closed emitter.

Best of luck

Here is my universal front waist band holster 😂🤣😂

Boy there is that too 😂🤣😂 My ranch pistols take a beating no matter how much I try to protect them.

I suspect you’re closing your non dominant eye, stop doing that, shoot with both eyes open for red dots. Unless you’re getting mud caked on them I’ve never seen dust/dirt be an issue. If it’s truly getting that dirty you must be cleaning that pistol every day too.

Nah, it’s more like you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. People won’t learn to adapt what they don’t want to learn and will make every excuse not to

As I've posted before on other red dot subject threads.

I personally see NO need for a red dot on a self defense carry gun since 99% of all self defense shootings occur under 7yds.. A red dot simply has no advantage for most people until ranges exceed 15-20yds..

They are fun on range toys and nice on a hunting handgun, otherwise I'll pass.

Not really brother, its all a preference thing. I always try the new theories and gadgets. I’m a minimalist and speed freak in the real world, I also carry center front waist band for protection of the weapon and ability to get it with either hand. The handgun was always my secondary weapon if the situation dictated it for a a host of reasons.

I know this a forever debatable subject 😂🤣😂🤣

We have a difference perspective on the use of the word “adapt” 😂🤣😂🤣

You make the point well. It is a forever debatable subject. While I see the disadvantages as far larger than the advantages, I have 2 good friends I train with (they are very good shooters) and they love these optics. But I will add this point... In training classes I have never seen a student ( some that I knew from their iron sighted days) fail to shoot poorly in a high stress multiple shot/adversary "fight" inside 5 yards. IMHO, when the chips are down, there is no time and the lighting is unpredictable, the optics are an unneeded burden. Opinions vary of course but I've never seen an exception to this. No doubt a person can eventually overcome this with training... I think. Just never seen it.

"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

“High stress” 😂🤣😂🤣

Wanna train, have two people come at you with rubber batons full force at the same time, see how the shooter deals with it.

It is the shooters choice for sure 👍🏼

Where an optic really helps is for law enforcement duty carry. Responding to situations is different than typical concealed carry UOF. A rifle may not be available when someone starts shooting at you from 40-50 yards away and having a dot scope is a better choice than open sights in that scenario.

I do think it can work in this scenario but the average cop has so many other weaknesses in stances and fundamentals. If they tightened all of them up they would be formidable.

I see so many people shooting a handgun with their elbows facing down-ish, not “wringing the towel”. It takes practice to develop the proper technique and then strength for the technique. And not squeezing their weak hand tight, or the trigger guard not in the “v” of their weak hand booger finger. 😂🤣😂🤣

The average person has a lot more weaknesses. That’s why they typically lose in a one on one encounter.

It’s kind of hilarious this thread ended the exact same way as the last time you asked.

Just more proof it’s not what it used to be. I see dozens of post everyday I don’t have an answer to, I don’t feel obligated to add useless info to. I’m obviously in the minority.

Stand in front of a 6” wood post, spray a dot at eye level, take a step backward, holster the weapon, then draw and force the weapon hard into the post/dot while “pressing” the trigger, all while wringing the towel and tightening weak hand, reholster, rinse and repeat, do this for several hours per day.

Once you get this down have someone spray you with a fire hose and dump buckets of sand on you and do for several more hours per day until you become one with the iron sights.

😂🤣😂🤣🫡🇺🇸
