When should I expect it to get better?

I'm on day 11. On day 4, my doctor gave me a shot and a 7 day supply of horse pills.

The rash has not blistered yet. No fever.

I am sleeping good but have not been able to work out in a week. Haven't missed any days at work. I just kind of mope around instead of bringing my usual high energy.

You'd think that with all of our medical advances we would have something that would knock this out or at least minimize it pretty quick.

There's a vaccine for it. This should spur some lively and intelligent conversation. cool

I haven't gotten the shot 'cause I watched my wife's reaction to getting it. It wasn't pretty. Her sister reacted the same way.

'Hope you feel better soon. Hang in there!

You have a much greater to getting shingles again after the first time. I had them around my belly before and it was miserable with the itching. My Pharmacy keeps recommending the vaccine but I’ve put it off.

I've seen folks get their butts kicked by the vaccine. I've heard a couple that came through with not many issues, but that's the exception.

If you have shingles, you're supposed to wait at least a year before you get the vaccination, at least that's what I was told.

I was weird and got shingles at a young age, 40 I think. Doctor put me on something (I can't remember what) and it got knocked down pretty quick. For me, it came on pretty slow and was a pretty unique feeling, so the second time that process started, I went straight to the doctor and he gave me the same thing and it never took hold.

I'll have to look back and see if I can figure out what I was prescribed.

Shingles Vaccine has only been out about 20 years now

I got it about 10 years ago, I remember it was two shot and had to wait like a month or so between shots.

My mother got Shingles a few times but back then no vaccines, it looked pretty uncomfortable to deal with

I had a friend get the shot and then had a terrible case of them within a year. No shot for me.

I had it about 7 years ago? on the back of my right leg. More of a burning/sensitive for me. Doc gave me a prescription and knocked it out fairly quick. I haven't had any preventive vaccinations.

Ditto for me.

Neighbor's wife got shingles and after seeing what she went thru, the shots were an east decision.

Chickenman, I think you're a bit young for shingles, yes? I know it happens, but the vaccine isn't recommended until you're 50, so what's a younger fella to do? Get better quick, sir.

Since I'm hitting that milestone, looks like I'll be looking at the vaccine here in a few months.

The original Shingles vaccine was only 50% effective. That is, without the vaccine your chances of getting shingles were ~1 in 3. With the vaccine your chances were reduced to 1 in 6.
The newer (2 shot) vaccine is (I think) at least 90% effective for those over 70. It's not like the measles vaccine which is pretty much 100% effective.
Still, I've know folks who got shingles and they certainly did not enjoy it so getting the vaccine was an easy decision.

Then again, I'm pretty careful to keep my dTap up to date and I've gotten the COVID shots as well. For me, it's "an ounce of prevention…"

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

Wife and I got the 2 part shot a few years ago. After seeing our son and one of his cousins develop shingles while in college, we wanted to minimize the risk.

My wife got shingles well over a year ago. the rash is gone but she has chronic pain in the area to this day. From what I understand, it fades in most people but not for everyone and unfortunately hers has stayed. Convinced me to get the vaccine.

Hope yours clears up.

I got the 2 shot one several years ago. The first shot caused a reaction kind of like the flu but no rash. My doctor said the reaction was a sign that I was really susceptible to it and that the second shot would be milder. Second shot was easy on me.
I watched my dad go thru having shingles and it was really bad for him. Back in high school in the 70's, I had a 17 year old friend that got it on his left arm and face. He lost the use of the arm and his sight for about a 6 months.
Didn't want any of that.
