This is my son’s scorecard from an indoor archery tournament he shot yesterday. One shot out of 60 just outside of the five ring. 46 shots out of 60 were within the 1.5” x-ring. Basically hitting a 50¢ piece 46 times with his hunting bow. One shot away from a perfect score. He switched to a back tension release only 2 days before the tournament. He will be shooting in a national tournament in a couple of weeks. When we’re hunting, he won’t take a shot over 25 yards but messing around in camp, he has set his Black Hole target as far as 85 yards. He’s batting a 1000 on deer. Hasn’t missed one…hasn’t lost one…will only take a “perfect” shot. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-3751-445498-76134209585__d2193fd6_3922_4906_a24f_28ec212bdf3b.jpeg)
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

That is amazing. A whole lot of folks can’t shoot this good with a rifle 👌

Congrats. That's a good score with a hunting bow.

I dont know anything about archery tournaments so can you tell me if this is compound and what distance. Congrats and I like that he only takes perfect shots. Also like the 25 yard limit cause even a perfectly shot arrow wont always be a fatal shot if that deer has time to duck the arrow.
At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR Keep your gratitude higher than your expectations. RWH

That's a TFAA shoot your way across Texas tournament. It's indoor, 20 yards. My best is 297 and that's with a target bow. 300 isn't unheard of but it isn't average either. Based on scores at our tournaments 300s happen about 1 in 15 or so. Just a guess. It takes concentration and discipline to shoot a 299. It's my Achilles heel. On a good day I can shoot 310 or 315 in 3d (before target panic set in). But I can't string together 12 ends of 5 arrows. As a comparison, Indoor NFAA scoring is skeet and 3d is sporting clays.
Again, congrats to the OP's son.
