I catch rattlesnakes every year between now and mid march. If you know of any rattlesnake dens on your ranch or deer lease and want the snakes removed then please let me know. You could come with me or not. Totally up to you. Sometimes, I even catch the snakes then let a bunch of them go. I have hunted almost everything over the years and caught several big gators too. Catching rattlesnakes in their dens is one of the most fun, exciting things that you will ever do in your life. Please PM me if you know of any dens and are interested.

had a friend that used to do that ... some of the stories he could tell made my skin crawl !!! I was at his house years ago and he took me out to his old storm shelter where he had a 4' x 8' cage and I about came unglued when we went down there and hundreds of 'em started buzzing at the same time when we turned on the light and got near the cage. I wasn't expecting that in the least.

School friend's dad collected them and juiced them for research at KU. His den was wallpapered in rattlesnake skins. Texas used to have a rattlesnake roundup, don't know what happened to it.

there were actually several rattlesnake roundups ... likely the most famous was Sweetwater (I think) but Taylor and Burnet used to have them as well.

But other cities have them too (usually between March and April). Taylor, Brownwood, Freer, Big Spring, Jacksboro, etc

Until the pigs moved in I was butt deep in snakes of all kinds. Now, have seen only one in the last 3 or 4 years.

I grew up spending a lot of time in the Gloss Mountains in Oklahoma. We would take fireworks and throw them down the dens where we saw steam rising from their breath, wasn’t always rattlesnakes that came out but it was fun

I spent 4 years in the USAF stationed just outside of Phoenix. I loved that desert and spent a lot of time outdoors. At one time I had dang near a coffee can full of rattles.
Then I decided that I wasn’t mad at them and quit messing with them.
The land I have South of Bowie was loaded with them. Then the pigs moved in and no more buzz tails. Haven’t seen a snake in over 10 years. If I see one on the dirt roads, I stop, look and leave it alone.

I hunt in Southern Atascosa County. Back in the 70's and 80's, we had an abundance of rattlesnakes everywhere. By the 90's they were slowly disappearing (about the same tine our hog population was starting) and now, today, we vary rarely see one. I have not seen one at our ranch in 15 years. My cousin saw a rattler two years ago and it was a big one (over 6 feet long.) But, every year I see a few black indigo's and our hog population is always booming. Hogs eat rattlesnakes if they catch them.

Some years ago I heard of a few landowners ok with gathering rattlesnakes as long as no gasoline is used. That still a thing?

I think it's still a thing and some people still use gasoline. It is pretty exciting....
