or just do not have a clue that they need to be done. What are some of the things that you took or take for granted that have surprised you when you had to deal with it? I was scrolling through short videos and a guy was cleaning his dishwasher filter Regularly change out my HVAC filter and either clean or replace our vehicles filters, never thought about a dishwasher having one So what I am about to share with y'all is a bit embarrassing, but it is for the greater good for all of THF Mankind and THF women, but more than likely y'all gals already knew it because like most women, y'all already know everything We have had our Whirlpool dishwasher around 8 years maybe longer, I do not ever remember the filter being cleaned, not saying it hasn't, if so it was obviously a long time ago. People if you have not cleaned yours out, it is Easy Peasy! Pretty nasty if you ask me. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-1274-445053-dwf.jpg) Mo Betta!! Setting a reminder to do it every 6 months now.

I watched a similar video a few weeks ago. I didn`t know either. We have a dishwasher we don`t use much since there are just 2 of us. Holidays mostly. I did check my filter screen anyway and it wasn`t too bad. Vinegar cleaned it up in about 30 minutes and all was ok. I sent out a text to my family members to let them know to cleans theirs. BTW... there are actually 2 filters in some DW`s as this video shows. Mine did.

Will admit I only clean it when the dishwasher seems to be doing a less than stellar job. I guess I'll put a reminder on the calendar with my HVAC filters.

Well, you made me check mine and it looks clean as a whistle. We've been in this house for 3 years now. I've known people that wouldn't change out a burned-out light bulb, hell I was related to one. Also known people that would never change an a/c filter...same guy. "Captain of industry" they said at his funeral. Okay. Cars have made such improvements that I take a lot of things on them for granted, compared to the way I was raised to check things. I always worry about tires. My wife's car is what you could call a "performance" automobile. That thing eats through tires like you wouldn't believe. Other things rarely break on that vehicle, but when they do...watch out. I take shop vac filters for granted. Now those things can get nasty.

Clean drinkable water from the faucet.
Was in the Navy for 4 years and been many places in the middle east and east Africa. Before leaving the ship in most places we were always reminded DON'T DRINK IT UNLESS IT'S FROM A CAN OR BOTTLE.

Besides Creek & NORML, wonder how many on here that saw this post went huh, maybe I should check my dishwasher filter? I bet that smelled nice Actually I did not notice, but then again did not get my sniffer close. I just did mine, sure glad we rinse all the dishes before we put them in. The dishwasher to me is just a dish sanitizer, I clean them off pretty thoroughly before putting them in there. I do my best not to let the wife or the kids when they are over load the dishwasher , they will chunk stuff in there with food all over it. If there is only a couple of dish's from a meal, they get hand washed, all pots, pans, mixing bowls and other large things that use to in the dishwasher are hand washed. Do not like hand washing silverware, mainly forks.
BTW... there are actually 2 filters in some DW`s as this video shows. Mine did.
Cleaned them both.

'Thought of a similar, more disturbing situation... After you've had some contractor's employees in your house, ones that you hope have a visa and speak no or next to no English, and they've used the restroom, empty all the trash cans quickly and DON'T get your smeller close to that. They don't take the sub-par plumbing in their home country for granted.

Had no idea that the dishwasher had a filter but it makes good sense that it’s there.

There are so many helpful/hack videos out there to either remind you to do certain task or teach you how. Watched another one about cleaning out the P Trap under the sinks, will get to that after my nap this afternoon

You'll be progressing to septic tank servicing soon. Let us know when you buy a honey wagon.

Great post! Never even thought that I had a filter in my dishwasher. It's one of those that has a disposal at the bottom. Wow was mine dirty.

Watched another one about cleaning out the P Trap under the sinks, will get to that after my nap this afternoon Don't stop at the P-trap. do the down spout from the sink and remove the stopper when you do it. alot catches on the stopper and builds up before you even get to the P-trap

been in enough foreign countries with bad water to appreciate ice. I like a refreshing cold drink with ice in it.
We were served a double dose of humble pie on a medical mission to honduras..."hospital" we were operating at had one bathroom, and we had to put booties on the patients because many could not see well enough to do the job right, so we would help. Well we always sent them to the bathroom first before, and then they came for the booties. Many were barefoot due to lack of funds for shoes.
The bathroom was a single stall with many tiles missing form the floor, and in the areas of the floor absent of tiles there was standing water. The poo paper can was also right there. I do not know if the toilet was leaking the water or not, we never got the nerve to check that, but to think we were putting booties on these patients just after they had trudged through that standing water which could have been leaking from the toilet and you know some have done the #2....we were fortunate none of our patients experienced any infections. I think in those kind of people, you could spray their open wounds with MRSA and it still wouldn't cause an infection, their bodies are built to fight bugs just like the old frontier days. Do the same for some nowadays wimpy American immune systems and we would all be dying. There is something about living on dirt floors and eating animal crap and insects and lord knows what else in your food that makes your immune system a little stronger....no hand sanitizer back then or in many parts of the world today.
