TPWD buys 2,020 acres for new state park, eyes more land

Quote
Texas' state parks system is about to get a little bigger. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has finalized the purchase of 2,020 acres near Colorado Bend State Park in the Texas Hill Country. The property includes two miles along the Colorado River and is located across the river from Colorado Bend State Park. The purchase is phase one of a potential two-phase property purchase to create a new state park spanning more than 3,000 acres, with TPWD exploring an additional 1,100-acre property in Lampasas and Burnet counties.....

Eminent domain?

Believe it is slated to be open to day use only later on this calendar year. Camping/overnight facilities are still in progress and may be 2026. Or that was the last time I checked on it.

Looking forward to going there….

It`s a state job so it`s gonna take twice as long. Lots of building it the first time with the amount budgeted and when they get more money, they tear it out and rebuild it the way they wanted it to begin with. I wish they would hurry TFU. I`m 26 miles away.

I am 100% sure they did eminnent domains for lots of land at Ray Roberts, I don't know who owned the land where state park is.

I know they had like 3 proposed damn sites and one of them would of taken some of my land.

Who or whom owned the land around State park by the damn?

What was their last names?

My understanding is the owners approached the state and TPWD paid handsomely for it. The San Antonio news paper said the state paid $35 million for the 2020 acres, which seems rich to me. That's definitely not stealing it via eminent domain.

Perhaps because they royally screwed up their chances with Fairfield State Lake Park

And it will be as monetarily efficient as the USPS and my hunting license fees will pay for its operation.

Seems like a lot of state park expansion is going on lately. Has anyone seen a map of the 3k acres they just bought in Llano County to expand Enchanted Rock? I used to hunt a place near there so I'm interested to see where this piece is.

Palo Pinto SP is 30 minutes from my house and the wife and I are eager for it to open. We like to hike the parks.
