You guys arguing over what truck can pull the most weight all the while your Mall Crawlers are sitting in the driveway hooked to a 12’ single axle trailer with a lawn mower on it rofl

Nobody would look at my pickup and call it a mall crawler lol.

No arguing what can tow the most either easily hands down the HD’s. But that doesn’t mean all a 1500 is good for is a 5x8 with a lawn mower on it.

Having read all of this, most of it is spot on, seems to me. I have that Tundra and have pulled a 6500ish TT (loaded) for a while. Been on Interstates and back roads and hills and minor mountains, and I have decided my limits. No serious mountains for me. As good as that engine is, a long uphill drag ain’t for me, and the same going downhill. I’d have to have a 3/4 ton for the mountains.

As for speed, my TT tires have a limit of 65 mph, so I hold in around 62ish. That does make some folks mad, it seems. I’ll let em by when the shoulder allows it.

In the Sprinter Van, I can step on the diesel. 70 to 75 on the Interstate, and mountains are no problem (so far). That turbo diesel has some grunt.

If you are towing more than 9999 pounds for more than 50% of the drive-time, get a 2500 diesel. If not, 1500 gas. I programmed a key on a 2018 3500 yesterday with 372K miles and it looked new.

I think people sell 1/2 tons short because they might downshift or loose a few mph on a hill. Doesn’t mean they can’t and won’t do just fine. I mean I take shorter steps and walk slower carrying a bag of concrete too.

No cause they are dangerous as all hell with a bumper pull and 10k lbs. It’s worse going down hill than up. Go grab a 10-12k feed wagon, in a 1/2… then next time with a 3/4 and tell me you should do it with a 1/2 ton

1/2 with 10k plus is just a dumb argument. Same goes for pulling 20k with a SRW 3/4, why it’s dumb use a 1 ton dually

For the record every thing I just said that extremely dumb was because I done or worse, I’ll also be the first to say an idiot looking back.

Big difference also in a few miles verse 100.

Valid point, I do have a few intelligent moments but as you mentioned they usually come after the fact

I am surprised there is not mentioning of payload capacity in this thread. This is a huge factor between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton when the tounge weight is substantial.

One of the reasons i drive HD. Tow a 10k trailer with a 1/2 ton and there is roughly 1K on the tongue. Add 2 passengers and you are at the payload/axle limits. Nothing left for tools and gear so all that stuff would have to be inside the trailer and included in the 10K. Same trailer and passengers and with a 3/4 i can still put 1800 more lbs of stuff in the box - more payload left than most 1/2 tons have to start.

That's based on a 1500 lb payload which is about average for a crew cab 4WD 1/2 ton. If you went short wheelbase, regular cab and 2WD you could up the payload but who wants a truck like that?

Stop using logic. You are confusing some of the members.

Pass the gravy.

Finally found the one I liked for the right price. Only pulled the bassboat with it so far. You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face when I got to the lake. The hwy fuel mileage is amazing if you just set the cruise on 70.

I wanted a white truck but the spousal unit liked the black one better, so now I drive a black truck. Great truck though.
