Cartels have shot down their military helicopters. As everyone knows, corruption is very deep. Another problem is their military don’t pay [censored]. Commitment is for as little as 1 year.

If Mexico would let US or UN control their checkpoints. It would choke them out, or at least slow them way down.

I have a buddy who is from there and retired there. He has helped with some training, he says it will take 50 years to straighten it out. Says when he helps them out, if it’s a suicide or murder. The first officers always steal the guns to sell.

In some ways, their situation has similarities to the US. The bad guys have had too many generations to grow deep roots. Mexican men are not cowards, but they have been disarmed. A very strongly properly supported and funded military/state police turned loose. Add some mercenaries and heavily armed citizens and the tide could be turned. Step one is to repeal their gun restriction laws implemented in the 1970s.

Yes, I am quite aware of the level of ruthlessness and terror tactics being applied by the cartels. It wouldn't be fast or pretty, but the return on their investment would be enormous. Not to mention the benefit to our own country.

So it's not people trying to get control, the cartel is still very much functioning. They were blocking highways trying to stop the vehicles carrying him from passing and it escalated into them shooting at the helicopters, Mexican military, etc. The guy they caught wasn't "the" leader, just one of the captains.

They killed 2 soldiers and wounded 5 more while losing 1 of their own on the weekend while they were trying to get to him, prior to the apprehension. No word on today's numbers, but the cartel isn't just someone you can go in and roll. We had a hard enough time facing the farmers in Afghanistan, these dudes are equipped better than most non-SOF guys are going to be.

If we really do declare a war on them and the US starts getting involved in the engagements, it's going to be a wild one.

The team groups will [censored] them up and have ice cream after dinner. If the AF is involved and they are, it may be lunch.

I'm not sure we have the resources to send enough SOF to fight an entire country's worth of Cartel members and their hired goons. Only a matter of time before they start crying about war crimes while simultaneously beheading people on film as well.
