This works really well for me.
Prepare roast at least one day (but better if two days) before cooking:
Cut about 8 cloves of garlic lengthwise, poke 16 deep slits in the roast with a sharp knife and stuff a half clove in each slit. Season the roast on all sides very liberally with Kosher salt, black pepper, granulated garlic and smoked paprika. Place seasoned roast on a plate, uncovered, in the refrigerator. Remove from fridge at least an hour before cooking and let come to room temperature. Cook at about 225 degrees until an internal temperature of 120 to 130 is reached. Let rest at least 20 minutes before slicing.
If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you. "I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's point of view, but I can't seem to get my head that far up my [censored]." Senator John Kennedy, Louisiana

i have cooked probably 100+ tri tip roasts in my life, in both an oven and gas grill. I don't own a green egg. They are very forgiving. Even over cooking them a little still keeps the meat juice. For sure an instant read thermometer will be your best friend.
I assume you can somewhat control your Green Egg temp. I'd simply with just salt and pepper. Then with a meat thermometer inserted, I've cook on low around 275 degree until the internal temp is 112-115 degrees. Yes it is that specific for me.
Btw, these things are also good sliced into thin steaks. I usually just quick sear each side.
