I was working with that frac crew a couple years ago. I will say that operator is generally pretty safe. I never felt in danger working for them. But those boys shouldn’t have been where they were when they were.

Terrible, that line be it imaginary or marked off should never be crossed. Our guys turn in observation cards all the time when they shut down to tell people to stay out of the zone. It looks harmless, but what is inside trying to get out is killer, especially when Nitrogen is in use. God bless the families of the involved men.

It looks harmless, but what is inside trying to get out is killer, especially when Nitrogen is in use. God bless the families of the involved men. Yes. We’ve all done it many times. Anymore, I keep myself and my hands out of the red zone. It’s just not worth it.

It IS a dangerous job. And getting to location out west is dangerous too!

It IS a dangerous job. And getting to location out west is dangerous too! That’s terrible…. Pressure absolutely will win! Prayers for those men, their families, and those on location during this incident.

My guy's were on their way to location to service pumps at the Permian Green (sister location) when we got word that the location would be closed for a few days. Incredibly sad for those involved, really good teaching moment for my young guys to see the danger.

It IS a dangerous job. And getting to location out west is dangerous too! I never worked in the field, but I`ve built and tested thousands of pieces of iron, manifolds and valves with a CWP of 15K or higher. We tested them at 22500 (1.5 x CWP) in a 30x30 room that was over a foot thick with concrete and thick steel doors. I saw parts blow a few times and it would rearrange the room for sure. It made me realize that I never wanted to work around any iron that was under pressure. It only takes one union/nut that isn`t tight enough for a fatal accident or any part, hose or valve that should not be in service due to washout. God bless those men and their families.

Worked in a High pressure plant in Odessa for 24 yrs. (Polyethylene) Glad I am retired. I saw guy get to thinking about the Pressure surrounding us and go Quit a decent job. Pressure will win more ways than you think.

Iron needs to be certified every 180 days if used in frac. That is a disassembly, visual, UT, mag particle, and hydro test. The sand just further accelerates wear, and if they have been pumping too fast for the size and number of lines it is worse. It was mentioned there was a valve near the separation, whether that is true or not, we do not know. However, if there was a valve, and it was not fully open, it would take very little time the sand cut the iron beside it. Years ago we were doing a frac in the Rendon area and had a similar incident happen. The well had a new at the time speed head on the casing, and the well head company failed to open one section all the way. 20 minutes into a four hour stage we sand cut the casing and what resulted was a blowout, thankfully it did not ignite, we had already treated two zones prior. It blew the windows out of our frac van and covered us with glass and water, two of the trucks also had the windows knocked out. Boots and Coots arrived later and it was under control a few days later. Luckily nobody was injured, if we had people where they shouldn't have been, it would have been catastrophic for the humans that were there.

It’s amazing how often you see iron out here with an expired annual test. Not good. Another shortcut is those that do a “shell test”. They just run a hydro on it and if it does not blow up they call it good. You could have one piece that is about used up, but hey, it was good yesterday.

He worked for BJ in north and east Tx. Quit after a few slight injury accidents to the crews.

Thats a bad deal,that pressure ain't a joke. I worked on a Key frac crew for around 5 years, 2005 to 2010. We would work around the line all of the time, and would even be working on pumps, replacing seats and valves on pumps in the middle of a job right on the line. We were only running around 4,000 psi but looking back, we were still pretty dumb.
