For those of you who have done this, are there any special tips/tricks to these? I’ve seen two different kinds. One where they push themselves in and another that has a trip wire. We don’t want to drop the $ on a nice trap plus we have the equipment there already for this style of trap. I’ve shot 8 with the thermal the past 2 weekends but it doesn’t seem to make a dent. Time to try other things.

OK, I had one set up and made a mistake when I got a sounder in there.
When you shoot the hog(s) in the trap, shoot from their level through the fence/panels. Do not try to shoot a bunch from above the panels. I had about 20 in a figure 6, and thought they were in there and couldn't get out....I just started spraying bullets in from above with no aim, and the biggests ones rammed the panels so hard they bent and lifted and most got away. I ended up killing 5 or 6, can't remember, but I missed out on taking the whole sounder. Had I been shooting at theier level, I would have been much more accurate and been able to blast the lead ones trying to break the trap.

On my figure 6, I set it with a trip wire. It wasn't anything super creative, but the door was held by a wire to the back side where a carabiner had a small stick holding the trip wire. You want to make it high enough that babies won't trip it but low enough that a decent hog will. Also, the stick holding the wire has to be small enough to break but big enough to hold the door. there is a balance there, but it isn't rocket science.
I have tried setting it up without a trip wire, and found the pigs didn't care to "push" themselves inside. The open door made it work the first night.

Pull the flap door wide open till they feel comfortable. Then close it; they will fill it it, use plenty of deep T post, that’s it.
