Rumors surfacing that Jerry's requests/demands that MM bring Witten on staff as future heir apparent may have been the straw breaking camel's back during negotiatons. I guess like he did with J. Garrett under Wade Phillips.

I would like to see Witten on staff too, but that is a HC decision, not a GM decision. Who knows what will happen with Zimmer. New HC could bring his own DC, or Zimmer could be the next HC.

McCarthy gave Jerry the figure, Pete Carroll gave Jerry the figure. No other team even interviewed Schottenheimer for HC. Looks like Jerry found his next yes-man.

What I feel is odd, he couldn’t wait until after championship weekend. Shottenheimer is in no risk to leave. Nothing wrong with interviewing a few extra guys still coaching this weekend. Ask them what they could do with cowboys roster. Gather some ideas, strategy. Maybe find a quality guy.
All seems rushed for a guy that’s not at risk of leaving.
