Received a text saying that they were the IRS and I'm eligible for a $1400 Economic impact payment, just give us your personal information and in a day or two we will either send you a paper check or direct deposit into your account.
My response was, A** hole the IRS already has my information

Yeah, it’s always sketchy when they ask for your personal info like that. The IRS already has everything they need, so no need to fall for these scams.

Well that beats the IRS letter we received that stated they haven’t received our 2023 Tax return and we owe $X for late fees despite the fact we shipped it with a signature required and tracking #. Inside that envelope was the check for $18,xxx that they deposited within 24 hours of signing for the envelope.

At some point late last year they sent us a check for maybe $200 for an error they made regarding the status of our kid because someone else claimed his SSN on their taxes before we submitted ours.

So they know there was an error, they know who the child belongs too, deposited or check, but they can’t find our return?
