I've been kicking around an idea and would like some feedback. I'm a fan of pistol-grip-fed carbines like the Ruger LC, KelTec Sub2000, Hi-Point Carbines, MPA5700, KelTec CMR30, Smith & Wesson M&P FPC, and others. However, for hog hunting, I’d like something with better penetration for head shots.

Ideally, it would use bullets like the Peregrine VRG1/VRG2 in .22, 6mm, .25, or 6.5mm diameters. The idea is for a manufacturer to develop a platform and ammunition combination where the bullets are widely available and reasonably priced. Handloading wouldn’t be practical, especially for pest control or high-volume use.

The cartridge would need an overall length shorter than the .30 Carbine—maybe based on a cut-down Grendel or ARC case. It wouldn’t need extreme velocity, just better penetration than 9mm. Having a trajectory as flat or better than 5.7x28 would be nice.

Would you be interested in something like this if it existed? Are most people using .223 or .300 BLK? Is there something already on the market that fits these criteria that I might have missed?

Sounds like you are not serious or totally unaware of just how tough feral pigs are.
If you are after single pigs and only plan to take one, anything WILL work if YOU can hit a small target.
If you are serious about hunting feral pigs, forget about the featherweight, no sack loads.
If a sounder comes in, you will get exactly one "stand still shot" then just flesh wound any others you shoot at as they run.

Cheers,

What you want is a 357 mag in a pistol caliber carbine. They make them in lever action. I don't think demand is really there for coming up with a whole new pistol cartridge just to feed a PCC. Can you get one in 10mm? That would get you closer.

Vern1 is spot on. If you just want to snipe brain shot a particular hog, then the concept would work, but it would be far less than ideal for less precise running shots. This won't be distance sniper either, I don't think.

Given that this is a specific purpose built design with the extra-limiting grip size/cartridge size factor that hinders the purpose of the design, I would say this is a non-starter. The only benefit this design has is feeding rounds through the magazine and that isn't helping with the goal of killing hogs in any way.

I am serious about hunting them. I would selectively kill single small ones to eat. In SC they aren't as much of a problem as they are in TX, yet. And even if they were, myself nor my friends and family have any large property that needs to be protected. All that said I probably wouldn't be taking running shots.

Hi-Point 1095 is a 10mm. I think the cartridge could double as a military cartridge. It would fall somewhat between 5.7x28mm and 300 BLK.

Feeding through the grip can make the gun more compact. But to your point it would be limited. 6 ARC shortened to 30 carbine length could maybe match 5.56 energy at a lower velocity.
