I have for sale a 1978 Wards Western Field Model 740 A-EMN (Marlin 336). Marlin manufactured this rifle for Ward's. The rifle is in excellent condition and has been upgraded with the following parts: Ranger Point Precision trigger & lever screw; Longhunt single piece firing pin, magazine spring and follower; Palo Verde adjustable hammer spring; and a Rhino picatinny rail (RPP). All original factory parts are included. A MidwayUSA canvas rifle case is also included. $995 cash, Venmo or Zelle FTF north Dallas area. I live in Frisco. I will consider shipping for actual cost. There has been some comments about the recoil pad. That is actually how the rifle was manufactured by Marlin for Wards. Here are some additional examples:

Here is a copy of the original owners guide for the 740 model which preceded the 740 a-emn
Slightly different recoil pad design and it was red. The recoil pad is a factory feature.

Thanks Shadowman. Right now I’m working on a cash sale for a project, but feel free to pm me with a proposal.
This rifle was built just like any other “JM” Marlin in 1978. It’s just roll marked for WesternField and slightly different aesthetics. I like the thinner profile forend and buttstock along with the Marble style front sight.

So for fun I installed an Sig Remeo5 red dot on the rifle. 2 MOA single dot. You shoulder the rifle and it’s right where you want it to be. Fast acquisition like you would expect. Much easier than factory irons.
