By all standards and several comments on here I am over annealing. I am also on the 4th firing with this method and loathe to change what’s working. The ammo is holding half moa at 500 this way. What’s my potential downfall and when will I see it.

I watched the video yesterday and it seemed inconclusive. Hoping for more feedback here. Positive or negative doesn’t matter.

If I had one that I annealed like that, it'd be a fouler...that's not something I'd do...but to give you feedback on the effects, no clue because I think you are definitely over annealing and I've never done that.

Before I jumped in the AMP pool...I shut the lights off and when the tip of the neck would just start to glow, that's where I stopped. I checked it with Templaq (sp?) and I was pretty close. I can tell you based upon the AMP Aztec settings, even that was over annealing a bit.

Good luck, not sure how much that helps confused2

IMO, it appears to be over-annealed. With a one flame torch, you need about 6-7 seconds of time for a proper annealing temp. With 2 flames, reduce that by about 2-3 seconds. I center the heat flame right at the neck for about 6.5 seconds, then drop it into a bucket of water. The water isn't "needed", but it certainly halts the heating and cools the brass quickly for easy handling. And I brush the inside of the necks to get any carbon off, then tumble them clean again.

If you method is working, keep doing it. But the image you posted has the annealing going much further down the case body than I've seen, and the annealing area appears darker than I've seen. confused2

His results were that it didn't matter much at all, even in those he annealed for 20 seconds.

Agreed as far as press pressure. He was still afraid to shoot them. Mine look like his first attempt at 10 seconds. The 15 and 20 was sketchy I thought.

Chad the color is more a play of light, I moved around until it showed the best for the picture. It’s not as dramatic as the picture appears.

It's the purple coloring that bothers me. I use a single flame and stop when the color changes to 'straw' color. Then air cool. slight purple 'ring' at the edge of the annealing, rest is kinda silverish.

I feel like I have the torch set right, and I set it in the dark until it just starts to glow. I also used templauq to how ever you spell it. Idk

This video has some facts and basis that fully explains the science. Even ole Eric Cortena could take some advice from this guy..
