I've had a Hornady hand held priming tool for several years. It has broke. Looking for recommendations for a replacement. What do you use and why do you like it?, or something like that. Thanks in advance!

The Frankford Arsenal is the ticket. When my old school Lee stops working well Frankford Arsenal is my next choice

I'll second this. I overlooked this type of tool for years because my intuition told me that there would be too much leverage and no sensitivity, leading to crushed primers. When age caught up with me enough that I had to admit to myself that my hands just weren't up to the handheld type priming tools anymore, I relented and bought one of these bench mounted tools. And boy, was I surprised. I can MUCH more easily feel the cup seating, and this thing is easy on arthritic hands (it's not like I'm on my last leg or anything, but some days are just tougher than others). Even if you have the hands of a nineteen year old, I'd recommend this setup. Wish I'd tried it when I first saw it.

I haven't had the hands of a 19 yo for over 40 years. JGs recomendations are generally spot on and easy on my hands is a winning argument. Thanks for everyones input!

Pistol, rifle, or both?
If pistol only, the RCBS hand held is great, at least my old one is.
As mentioned, if you're doing mostly rifle you might consider a bench mounted unit.
I load way more pistol (or did) and can do it on press with my turret too. I like the round tray (original, now discontinued) Lee Safety prime for my auto-index turret enough I bought two secondhand when they were "updated" to the new design so should be set for life.
Pass the gravy.

I have been looking at that. I dont think that I will ever see the difference on target between that one, and the one JG posted, and there is a decent price difference. Im still using a RCBS hand primer, I have had it as long as I can remember. When the time comes for me to change, I will see what is out there.

My needs are mostly rifle. I have 2 Dillon 650s set up for pistol. One for each primer size. Also a toolhead with dies and powder measure set up for each pistol caliber I load. Things I have accumulated on this journey............

The old auto prime from Lee was prolly my favorite… but the bean counters got involved and it’s a POS now.
This is the one station I have that I’ve never been able to find one I like. I currently have the RCBS that JG linked. I’m not crazy about it but it works and has kept me from buying the press mounted one wp linked. I’ve seen a few interactions of the primal rights owner online and I’d prefer to stay clear of him. That’s probably “the best” but I’m not sure the juice is worth the squeeze.
So I’d say they are about like cell phone providers, they all suck…just some a little better than others.

I use the old Lee Auto Prime 2 for all my rifle or precision ammo for priming. It is press mounted and easily adjustable for primer depth. It’s the fastest and simplest method I have found to prime cases. It’s very quick and uses the leverage of the press to prime. And it uses standard shell holders.

I fooled around with all kinds of hand priming tools over the years. I finally bought the RCBS 9460 bench auto priming tool. I consider it one of the best tools I've ever bought.

For pistol, I use an old Lee Auto Prime. I can go pretty fast with it. For rifle, I used an old RCBS single seater. It broke after maybe 40 years, so they sent me another old one they found in the warehouse. It broke. They sent me their new model (not the universal shell holder type), which I don’t like. So then I got a Frankford Arsenal one, and I am quite happy. But, I didn’t like the primer tray on the Frankford, but the one from the RCBS fits it and works very well.

I bought a Sinclair about 25 years ago. I have to insert the primers individually (no automatic priming tray/system), so it's not the fastest. But, I'm good with that. Solid tool IMHO.
