Okay, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but they are screaming that they are running out of water to fight the fires. The last time I checked, isn't the Pacific Ocean made of water? Yes, salt water is nasty and will play havoc with the plant life (which may be a good thing) but it will put out the fires.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Ocean water ( salt water) is usable to pump out the ocean. If the Bank is too steep, you can not a pump to pull water. Do not want hoses crossing roads to equipment or firefighters. Hard to pull over on the road shoulder. Heli can not drop a bucket in winds over 35 mph per hour, the bucket gets swamped by waves. Helo in that smoke is not safe, killing a pilot and losing a chopper is not practical.
Firefights will use saltwater if possible and I have done it, but conditions dictated. The speed the fire is moving also plays a part in where to set a pump, at that fire speed it could be good now, and an hour later a long haul for water.

this is why there has been talk to prepare these areas for the worst-case scenario. But it always happens to someone else or I am too lazy, too busy, or want the Gov to help with the prep work. Then the Sh@#t hits the fan and Help Me.

Hawaii fire had lots of sea water available too. Didn't help much. No big pumps. NOLA had big pumps (hurricane) but they didn't work - maintenance. See the problem yet?

No one said pump the sea water through the fresh water system, couldn't they use tanker trucks, go to the beach fill them take them to the fire trucks fill their tanks.

Dumocrat Newscum and his LA mayor need to be held accountable for this disaster they created by cutting funds for firefighters and destroying water reservoir dams. Get a rope! hanged

That seems like a logistical nightmare. They were already having to use dozers to move abandoned cars out of the road so I’m guessing navigating a bunch of tankers through those streets wouldn’t be the easiest. It seems like you’d need a lot of them to do any good as well. And filling them might be tricky too, you couldn’t just drive out on the beach and drop a hose in the ocean

About the only way to do it, is with Engines drafting from the ocean. Pump GPMs certifications are based on a 10' lift, during a draft. I've never been on an Engine with less than 2000 GPM.

Draft Engines would be pumping through 5" hose to relay Engines. Each Engine carries 1000' of 5" hose in the bed. As well as short shot hoses for connecting to hydrants.

So, depending on how far from the ocean the fires are, at the water source is an Engine. And then an Engine every 1000' in a relay.

Tankers have wings, Tenders have axles. A Tender water shuttle would be futile to the size of this fire.

Has it been determined exactly what started these fires?

Most likely ultra dry brush and grass, that is not allowed to burn off annually.

And one little spark this month.

There are at least 4 separate fires. Not exactly known.

A spark for a power line could be the cause.

We could be one step away from Biden offering to pay for uninsured losses before we see a lot more houses going up in flames.

He said yesterday the govt (our money) will provide 100% reimbursement. Not sure if this is to the State or to everyone.

I don't recall that offer being made to the Helene flood victims.

He said they would pay for the disaster RESPONSE costs, not pay for the victims homes to get rebuilt

Yes the ocean is full of water. The trick is getting it into a usable form. Think of it like this: There is a pasture full of cattle across the street from your house, but your freezer is empty. Yes, there is food across the street but it isn't readily usable.

There is alot of finger pointing and political blame gaming going on right now, but all of the water in the world and thousands of firefighters are not going to stop those fires pushed by the Santa Ana winds. We saw the same thing last year with the massive fire in the Texas panhandle. Lots of blaming one group or another, but sometimes you cant fight mother nature, you just have to get out of her way until she calms down.

Helos and planes were making good use of it, kudos to those guys.

I have to wonder how much the cost of covering all the uninsured losses would compare with all the student loan debt he has forgiven so far. While you're at it, add the cost of the California bank bailout that saved the small fortunes that Oprah and other celebrities had invested in it.
